Default Advice needed for new communication system

So, my husband and I are about to do a 3 week trip out west, and are discussing updating our ~5 year old communications system. We're on 2 rides (my F3-S and his 2 wheeler) and rarely separate by more than half a mile or so. We've been using a Scala Q3 system, which does work, but even after using it for years, the directions are confusing and we don't really like the system. On the plus side, the sound is really good, and they work over a good distance. On the downside, even set (supposedly) to sensitive, they still switch to standby frequently and it takes them quite a while to wake up.

So, what we are looking for is something for just 2 riders (we never ride with groups) that is easy to set up and use, has good battery life, and preferably won't go to standby so much or will come out of standby quickly. I would also like to be able to listen to music from my phone, something I've never figured out with the Scala. I'd like the communications between us to be the overriding use—if I'm listening to music, I'd want conversation to take precedence, if that makes sense.

So, does anyone have a recommendation, and are there other factors I need to consider? Thanks in advance!

I can get 7-8 hours with a pair of fully charged Sena 20S EVO's. Bought them last year - very happy with them.

The Sena 20 EVO is a good system for what you need. If you buy them at a local Cycle Gear they will install them and for $15 if one fails they will replace it.

Thanks, ned64. That's probably what I should do.

Most of the positive stuff I've seen here has been for Sena gear.

Yep. Bought new helmets there and had the clerk install the Sena's right away. I can't say enough good things about the Albuquerque store. The staff there are great.

I went on the cheap with the Amazon link shown below. They have worked really well so far, for the price, if it dies, you can buy three sets for one set of the new SENA. Pairing was a little difficult at first, but it was the operator not the units. On a side note, I am not a SENA fan, had difficulties with mine, battery life, wind noise, garbled talk, jumping through hoops trying to get customer service, just a bad experience for me. Many love the SENAs and that's good, just my experience.

Had Scala units for several years....never really worked all that well...so I pitched them...just got Sena 10S Dual in the mail from Amazon yesterday ($313)...been reading the short guide (way too short for me) and going to download the manual from the website if I can figure that out...from all the forum searches, it looks like Sena may be the answer to my problems, if my 1G mind can figure out the 5G units...
