Default Black Akrapovic muffler For RT?

    Hello all,
Just bought a 19 Phoenix Orange & Dark RTL last Saturday (waiting for it to be delivered).....But I've already ordered a ton of stuff for mods.
The first thing I'm going to do is this cat delete and Akrapovic muffler.
My question is do you think I could get way with using high temp paint to paint the new Akrapovic muffler black to match the bike?
I hate to screw up at $900 muffler just to paint it black. Has any one ever done this?
I guess I could paint the back side of the muffler and see how it turns out???

    Thanks,
    P.W.

Yes it will hold up. The muffler doesn’t get that hot, maybe 400 at the most ever. A good high temp paint is rated up to 1600. It’s hard to scuff the new one up but well worth the look in the end.

My understanding is that exhausts are designed to run within a certain temperature parameter. Painting the muffler adds what amounts to insulation, albeit a very thin layer. It could potentially cause the exhaust to run hotter than intended. Is the muffler not available in black?

JS3535.... That turned out really nice!!! Did you use flat black or satin?

To my knowledge it's not available in black for the RT

As JS3535 has said, you can def paint it! I used Stove paint on mine (woodstoves, wood fired ovens etc) and it has been bullet proof save a nick here and there that I can just "touch up" with the paint whenever I feel the need.... Mine is a flat black color and it still matches quite well with the other black "trim" pieces:

I wouldn’t have done that. You don’t want to pit it up. You just need some roughness to it, like some real fine sandpaper or emery cloth. If it is pitted you might need to sand it smooth.
