    Default FYI Headlight Globes oddity

The night before the Easter long weekened I blew a low beam headlight bulb (our low beam are in the lights mounted at the side of the Frunk, High beam in the two lights beneath the screen on the RTL) and we had a trip planned and were leaving at 0600 the next day.

The Lows are OEM Sylvania 9005 bulbs. A check revealed my car High beams were 9005 Sylvania's too. I poached one bulb went for a short run.

Wow - what a difference considering they were supposedly the same bulb. Straight back home and repeated the process.

    • I cannot see any diference in the bulbs and I have spent quite a bit of time eyeing them over.
The bulbs in the car are OEM and have been there since 2012.
The bulbs from the RTL are also OEM and its a 2017 model.
The bulbs from the car are providing a much better spread of light to the edges and a fuller fill of light in front of the RTL.

    Just thought I'd share.

That is odd - maybe they're putting really cheap bulbs in from the factory. All bulbs are definitely created equally. That being said, one of the first modifications I make to anything I own is to put LED headlights in it. You'll find the difference is HUGE in both output and light color.

If you are going to stay with the 9005s, try PIAA Extreme White, otherwise, go LED.

I would think twice about LEDS, I changed out to h4 LED's and I am not happy with the amount of light down the road at all. I have a 2018 F3L. I have read where the reflectors may be the problem with the LED's. So I will change back to the stock bulbs and see what if any improvement. Not happy.

    G'day Askitee
While you are changing the bulbs, get a "4 eyes" adapter from Pogo. Check the Au forums for his contact details.
Did it with my 2010 RT, huge difference.
    Cheers
