    Default Shift Shudder

Been a long winter and I cannot remember if this has been the case from day one.

When I start the Spyder I let it warm for about 30 seconds to a minute while I put on the helmet and jacket and then when I shift into reverse or first and proceed to pull away it shudders almost like it is pulling against the brakes. After I have run for about 10 minutes it takes off smooth as butter. It is just those first few take offs from a stop.

    2014 STS SE5 with 8500 miles.

    Thanks for the replies.

    Default Curious...🤔

What oil and condition of it are you using. When did you change it last. Good place to start ...

The centrifugal clutch is just cold. If it does it warm then it may be a few oz low on oil.

Was hoping it was something like that as the oil level is just below the upper limit mark on dipstick. When warm it is smooth on takeoff and gear to gear shifts.

Was probably the case since day 1. Identified in a tech bulletin. Normal.

I just start mine up while I am putting on my riding gear and hooking up the phone and GPS. About 3 minutes and all is good.

My 2013 has pretty much done the same thing on first start up IF I don't give it a fairly long warm up. Never seems to reoccur during the rest of the ride. I haven't been able to attribute it to lower than ideal oil levels. My view is that is the nature of the beast with cold oil. I have pretty much run the factory oil as I have it changed at a dealer.

Basically normal. Causes no harm so just ignore it and drive on. My 2013 STL did it from new until I traded it in 2018.
