Default RT rear boot/trunk lid fix

    Hi all
Got a hit sick of holding up the rear lid while getting stuff in or out one handed. Here in Australia we call it a boot not a trunk so included both in title. Had a good look of what would hold it up without interfering with the stuff i had inside so put this together one morning. It was a couple of bits i had lying around. Don't know how it would work with stuff on the rack but its only used for less than a minute to get your stuff sorted. Check the clip out

This is another possible solution and places less load on the edge of the trunk. https://www.canamspyderaccessories.c...-trunk-holder/

I have not financial interest in either the product or the company that makes/markets the above mentioned product.

Nice idea. I put a second gas strut on. Holds the lid nicely. Got it from Ovesco.

I appreciate the genius of the OP's solution to the lid staying up by using of what we used to call "church key" but it is bearing down on the edge that bears against the weather seal. If that edge is damaged it would allow the ingress of water and defeat the purpose of the weather seal. Those of you that choose to go that route, please check the edge to make sure it isn't damaged.

    An ingeniously simple idea
But, bearing in mind what Eckhard said above, and also bearing in mind that I have a top case rack installed with an Apache case bolted to it, I just ordered the trunk lid holder from Can Am Spyder Accessories,

I already installed a second gas strut but no harm in extra fortification from Pierre I guess

HIJACKING THE THREAD, FORGIVE ME... HayRog, What do you store in that TopCase? Well, really I mean how much can you store in that case?
I should have asked for examples and what made you get
1 the top rack, 2 the case, 3 the strut, and 4 the lock?
Oh, and what size is that case?

That's quite ingenuous! Good on ya!
I had the same problem, I just added a second strut to the other side.
Stays up no problem with a 10 lbs bag on the rack.

Years ago, someone put a spring around the gas strut to hold it open( Finless?)
I like the beer bottle opener strut. Better than what is on the F3L top case!

I ordered and installed this in replace my 2018 top case strut. The OEM strut is going on a lady friends 2017 on the right side, as hers will not hold the lid open. Two most likely will.
