Default Replacement Gas Cap for F3T?

The stock gas cap on my 2016 F3T is getting more difficult to snap shut with each fill-up. Can anyone recommend a replacement gas cap (It does NOT have to lock) that is easy to install? (I am mechanically-challenged.)

    Thanks!
    Bert

A little WD40 in the lock mechanism and a little silicon grease around the seal will fix that in no time.

I use both thumbs to press down on the gas cap with the key in the lock - no problems.

Like the starting procedure, the gas cap closing has a specific sequence. After fueling, flop the cap back down into the hole. Turn the key clockwise to 3 o'clock until the cap drops almost all the way down. Turn the key anti-clockwise as far as it will go to 1 o'clock . Press down on the edges until it clicks. Turn the key anti-clockwise the rest of the way to noon then pull it out. Ready to roll.

Wife and I both have LaMonsters gas caps on our F3-T and F3-Ltd. Love them and have had no problems at all. And there are 3 options of color, silver, black or silver inlay, can't beat that! Trust me, you will love it!

    Default Bummer.....

If the tricks posted to make the OEM cap don't work then the only one I know of right now is Lamonster's twist on billet aluminum cap. Go to Lamonster garage on the home page search F3 products.

you should have played more Nintendo
, otherwise try changing side of bike when you are closing, different angle=different muscles. Lamont's cap will add to the farkle benefit as well

Find some plastic grease it works just fine I put some on the big ring about every 6 months and no problem,
My problem with the Lamonster cap is once you unscrew it what do you do with the cap? I love the look is really nice and fits the ergonomics of the body really well!

Wouldn't putting on his fuel cap void emissions warranty should you have a fuel system problem.

With arthritis in my hands, it has been very diff to close the F3T cap till I read the below. Now its seems so easy:

A bit of oil in the mechanism and Vaseline on the rubber also made a difference.

If you are halfway good with tools, take the cap apart and file down the upper flat on the latch about 1/16". Not difficult and it's free. I did that with great results.

    Try this. 3 o'clock then 1 o'clock and press.

I could not close the gas cap on my 2018 F-3 Limited without doing a handstand on the cap. The fix is not difficult, its easy. Be careful and open the cap then stuff a rag into the opening to prevent dropping anything into the tank. You see the rubber gasket around the top of the gas cap, that's the problem. It's should move up and down easily and go all the way up but just does not go quite far enough. There are 4 tiny springs under that gasket that if you remove them, problem solved. The cap latch has to be removed to get to the springs but be careful cause there is a spring on the latch that could pop out and note how the spring came out. Keep the key in the lock in the locked position, this will make it easier to put back together.

    Default F3 Gas Cap

Replacing F3 gas cap. Info borrowed from Facebook, Thank You to Bob Nevitt.

I have never liked the hard closure the stock F3 gas cap.

Project: 2017 F3T, Change the locking gas cap to non-locking. You have several options. There are caps from Customspyderworks and Lamonster Garage offering. There may be others.
If you are handy, there is another option which is a lot less expensive. Installation details are shown on YouTube.
The one shown below is listed on Ebay - CNC Keyless Fuel Gas Cap Fit for Kawasaki EX 250 300 Ninja ER 250 300 08-17 BK.
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/27530112755...d54eee671acf69
Lists for $37.00 to $39.00 depending on when you buy. The one I have listed is the correct size for F3 Spyder. There are several similar caps listed. Make sure the dimensions are correct. The plate is 100 mm side to side and the mounting holes are 75 mm measured diagonally. Not included is the tool needed to loosen the nut holding the grounding screw and a wire to fish the new grounding wire up to where it can be attached to the new cap.
I made a tool to hold the nut with an 8mm wrench taped to a scrap piece of aluminum. Not professional, just functional. I had wire and a ring connector from previous projects. The screws that came with the cap were a little short. Replaced with (3 of 5mm x 40mm required)+(3 of 5mm x 16mm optional). Cost me couple of bucks to replace all the screws with the proper countersunk stainless steel screws, not shown in the photos. Total cost ~$40.00 for the Cap and Screws project versus $140.00 to $190.00 for kits with a plastic or aluminum tool and piece of wire!
I am very happy with the installation and the savings.

Relacing the gas cap with the one from Lamonster was one of the first things I did to my F3L. Makes it so much easier to fill the tank and much better looking as well. Can't really se a need for a locking cap anyway.
Thunder's just the noise. Lightning does the work.
