I was there in 1981 on a bus trip. I was stationed in Germany at the time. All of Paris was just awesome to see. Such a shame this happened. Last I heard no one was hurt. Hope it stays that way.

French billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault has pledged 100,000,000 euros for rebuilding Norte-Dame cathedral.
Luckily no loss of life.

As far as I can read these days it seems that the roof was in a sorry state, as befits roofs 800 years old and that's why they had begun their repair.
The lovers of the opera will remember that the Barcelona's Liceo Theater Liceo burned down and for 15 years was in repairs. Today it works again
but although it has tried to reproduce its original aspect, it will not be the same for those who knew it.
It is a pity that the health of these pieces of history is abandoned till there is not a remedy.

Big shock to all us here in France - on the TV 24 hours a day

I've been glad to hear all of the discussion about rebuilding the Cathedral. There seems to have been some pretty impressive donations made toward the effort already.
How do the French citizens feel about the idea of rebuilding?

President Macron says they will re build. Its not the first time that N.D. in its history has been damaged - luckily a lot of priceless items were managed to be removed during the fire.

I am not Catholic, but I do appreciate the history, cultural significance and artistic value of such a structure. I also understand it has spiritual meaning to people so I offer my condolences to all of them.
