Default SOLVED! 2014 rear brake pads

I got the rear caliper and pads off. I tried screwing the piston in and it just turns. Service manual says to rotate the parking brake lever. I think that is wrong. Anyone else do their own rear pads on an RT? No youtube videos either.

Thanks. I tried pushing pretty hard while turning clockwise, but it wasnt retracting. So I removed the parking brake cable bracket. This allowed me to swing the caliper to the rear and press it against the rear tire while turning the piston. That did the trick!! Turned piston in. Installed pads. Put caliper back on. Installed parking brake cable. Pumped up the brakes. Then started it up, tested brakes and parking brake. All is well again. I vow to never let this spyder beat me!!

I just replace my rear pads today. Got lucky and my piston turned in and was easy to turn. Needle nose pliers worked fine in my case.

I did remove the Parking brake cable and spring for easier access to the pads.

Not sure why the manual says to turn the parking brake lever??

Bajaron sells a tool that makes it easy to turn the cylinders at a fair price.

Do not try and rotate the parking brake lever! That info is incorrect as it will not retract the piston. I always remove the cable to ensure that the lever doesn't move and then rotate the piston back by hand with a tool I made, but the next time I purchase pads from Ron I will also order his socket as that will work better than mine.

I've done a few rear pad changes and just use a pair of needle nose pliers, never had a problem...

    Default Good to hear...

Always nice to hear back that the issue was solved and how...Sure it felt great when it finally started to retract and all was good again...

    Rear brake

When I did my rear brakes, I used the tool from Baha Ron and had no problem. Did fronts as well, and then went out on a not so traffic road and at about 60 MPH's slammed on the brakes, but not to a stop. Did this about 2 or 3 times and have not had any problems with parking brake or any thing. Hope this helps.

Throw another log on the pile for Ron's tool -- slicker than deer guts on a door knob!

I too did as viperryder and must say that I had never applied the brakes as hard as I did on those panic slowdowns, and the brakes work great.
