Default Home Made Bumpskid on 2016 RTS

I finally got the time to make a bumpskid for my RTS. I bought the 3/8 inch HDPE on ebay for $35. It was 2 feet by 3 feet before I started. Here is the photo evidence of what I did.

    Sir,
Great job! Being a like-minded DIYer I have been considering doing the same on my '18. Why the U-nuts, as opposed to the screws that seem to used on the commercial unit? Any further advice on your process would be appreciated!

I think this is going to be my next project for the bike. The Sypderpops version for the 2010 is out of stock (at least the cheaper version without the lights) and I'm a cheapskate at heart when it comes to mods and farkles.

From what I can tell, the OP bought the sheet and temporarily attached it at the back with two bolts so he could trace the outline for the front. That looks to be a fairly straightforward procedure. After that, it's cut to size and smoothed out. And then the other holes are drilled and the U nuts installed and it bolts on. Again, nothing too hard.

I may go ahead and make it out of 1/2" HDPE which might give me enough thickness to route a recess in the front lip and set some LED strips in as well if I feel the need. I just need to source the plastic first then get going. There is a local place in Norfolk that I have used before, and there is always Amazon and Ebay if that doesnt work. Hopefully this should be under 100 or way under depending on what I can find. Should be fun.

    Eviltwin,
Knowing this thread is rather old , I was hoping to renew the conversation and provide everyone interested with some options. For me the main reason is I prefer DIY (not that Harvey's product is deficient in any way!), irrespective of the $, its fun and I'm now a retired engineer/inventor who likes fun!

Thus, did you ever make one yourself? Great minds think alike , thicker yes, such as to embed LED strips. From what I can discern, Spyderpops mounts the LEDs in a additional strip attached to and above the leading edge. I've made a prototype pattern using an 1/8" thick piece of polyethylene sign material but that is as far as I've gotten on the mechanicals. The material I've found in a marine grade HDPE (not certain what grade Spyderpops uses?) is made by Vycom Plastics and is available in different colors and surface finishes (not that finish is much of a concern). I also found King Plastics, but don't have all the particulars. Datasheets or website URLs (not affiliated in any way) available upon request. Gotta do something as I have had some under-body touch downs that left marks!
