Is it normal for a 2012 RT to miss in neutral with the engine reved?

wondering if you are hearing the unspent gas getting back fire through the exhaust ? if you drive around , listen to the exhaust , kind of lean back and hear the noise see if you hear popping sounds , I hear this at different times with both the r-t`s that I have ridden ...

Probably not. But not enough information to give you a good answer.

How many miles on the Spyder?
Have the vacuum lines been checked/replaced? If yes. How long ago?
Have the ignition wires and or spark plugs been replaced? If yes. How long ago?

This might help us to give a better answer.

There are only 2500 miles. I dont think the wires and plugs have been changed. I was just wondering if age could haverotted the wires causing a miss. I also notice a slowing down all of a sudden, like the brakes are applied. I was thinking a plug wire was shorted to ground. I appreciate any info. It seems like a hard job. I checked the vaccumn lines and they look new

Vacuum lines can look new and still have micro cracks. My RS was running rough, replaced vacuum lines and used Baja Rons plug wires and plugs and it is running better than ever. Dealer did the work and cost was $180, plus the parts.

2,500 miles on a 2012. That is a lot of sitting. Could be a good number of things. I would start by checking tire pressures. 18-20 psi in the fronts, 26-28 in the rear. Then fill up with premium, non-ethanol gasoline if possible, and adding 1/2 can of Sea Foam to 2 consecutive, full tanks of fuel. I would check the vacuum lines on the left hand side of the throttle body as well. Even if they look good I'd replace them if you go to the trouble of removing the air box to check them.

It could actually be your brake pads hanging up. Easy to check. When you feel like you are slowing down, try to safely pull over without using your brakes. Then, using the back of your hand, get close to each rotor. If there is little or no wind you should be able to feel the heat from the rotor. If you have not used your brakes, the rotors should be just a bit warm at most. And they should all be about equal temperature.

You'll just need to go through a series of checks like this as a process of elimination to find your issue(s).

I am now getting the check engine light comming on. I checked for a code and got p1171. Any more suggestions?

A quick search shows the P1171 - System too lean bank 1. Front cyclinder. Could be caused by cracked vac hoses.

Bad vacuum hoses will give you fits. Change them out even if they look good. At least this will eliminate that possible issue. And your Spyder may run really great with just this little fix.

Thanks, are there hidden vaccumn lines under the air box? I am going to get some seafoam and try that.

Yes, they are located under the air box on the left side of the Throttle Body.

Diagnosing issues over the Internet is challenging. The next most likely source of your miss would be spark plugs & wires. But these would not account for your lean code. So if your vacuum hoses are good and properly connected. I do not have a good explanation for that code. Though bank 1 does tend to run lean normally. Cylinder 2 (rear) seems to get more fuel in the mix. Maybe because it is the rear cylinder which may tend to run hotter. Though with a liquid cooled engine. You wouldn't think so.

I brought it to the dealer, all they did was cleared the code and charged me money. The cel came on my first trip out. I Will look further into the problem. I sprayed some carb cleaner around the throttle body and the engine seems to lower rpm. It seems worse around the back cylinder

problem solved! I remove the airbox and there was a vacuum port on the right front cylinder. This port is used tp activate a clutch valve on other models. It should be plugged on an se5. Mine was wide open sucking vaccumn. I hope this helps others that get a p1171code. I changed my plugs and wires while i had the access. Got them from Baja Ron, nice guy
