    Default Vibration and clatter

I notice a loud clatter and vibration when starting out in drive or using reverse.Noise seems to dissipate at 1800=2000 rpms. Is this normal? I had this same noise in an old Honda Reflex scooter (250) which was the spin up of the clutch.
Maybe this is typical of the centrifugal clutch?

    Feedback appreciated

Assuming we're talking about the SE5 transmission with the centrifugal clutch, these threads will probably answer your questions, or at least allow you to determine if this is what you're experiencing. The actual TST is linked to in the second thread. If the chatter goes away after a few minutes of warm up, it is normal and a function of the redesign in 2013. If not, then it could be a bad purge valve or something more serious with the clutch.

Would help to know the year and model spyder we are talking about and the pre 14's had the 998 twin engine with a 5 speed centrificul clutch trans after that they came with the 1330 triple with a 6 speed hydraulic clutch and the new ryker has a full auto trans.... different rpm's different function....

My 2014 ST-S does the same thing if I drive off almost immediately after cold starting it. I usually let it idle for about 3 minutes to get the engine temp up and that reduces the initial engagement to almost nothing.

Guessing the '14 ST mentioned here: https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/...sible-purchase
& as far as the noise it may be belt slipping, if it's only heard on the belt side, & those lower RPM you are just getting started to moving, get some one to watch it for you & verify if something wonky is going on. Yes can test belt tension too, or first. I just like volunteering my buds for the super simple help like thatgood excuse to meet up. they return the favor as well & we're cool like that & there is usually food involved (whoevers treat)

I would appreciate input about installing a Lamonster idler pulley upgrade vs installing an entire tensioner assembly at 3X the price. Anything negative with continuing to use the OEM arm with the pulley upgrade?

Let my 2014 st limited idle for a few minutes and the noise is just about totally gone. Thanks to all
