Darn. It didn't look this big sitting on the showroom floor. I have an excuse now for a full size 2-car garage.

As I always say, when it is time for more the two wheels, so far, the only way to go is on a Spyder: A front wheel trike is a beautiful shiny chrome plated log truck, (solid rear axle means NO leaning and easy to turn over in an emergency turn. An RTL is a Corvette with handlebars. Lots of power broad in the front so oncoming traffic sees you much easier. You will love it!

I never even road a 2 wheeler befroe we got ours. Took me our first road trip to really get used to things. We have a 2013 RTL and love it. I orignally got my license in IL and got 3 wheel only endorsement as of course it was rather difficult to do the course IL has set up for 2 wheelers , dont worry you will love it we do, notice I keep saying we she wont let me leave home without her

My Spyder will be set up with the same intentions I set up my NT when I bought it...a long distance touring ride for 2 week and longer rides. It isn't going to be a commuter ride for me...I have a car for that. I've already priced the cost of a Russell Day Long for it. The one I put on my NT cost over $1K. Don't ask what the one I want for my Spyder costs. And I'll still pay the extra $80 for the same day ride in service like I did for my NT if Russell can do that for the seat I want.

I have negotiating power. I've played the game before. Some dealers have learned that the hard way when I did walk in the past (like the first one I went to when looking for my NT in 2010). I'm willing to go out of state to purchase if I can't find a local dealer who won't try to jerk me around. Then if I have to, I'll just find another local Spyder owner I can trust who may want to earn some extra cash doing my maintenance for me. I'm not against a dealer (or any business) making a fair profit for themselves. Just don't try to BS me while doing it. I wasn't able to go fully retired at 54-years old by throwing unnecessary money out the window.
Sounds like you have everything dialed in.

OUR Spyder is definitely a WE thing. Pretty Wife even chipped in some of her own money. She sez she bought the passenger seat! We have ridden two wheels together two up for 200,000 miles and we intend to stay in the wind.

Well, it was 3:30 PM and my "Out For Delivery" new helmet hadn't arrived yet. I ran out of things to do with the Owners Manual just sitting on it in the garage waiting. So I figured I'd practice backing out of and back into my garage in the driveway.

OK (*cough*)...I may have taken it to the corner and back a couple times. It's a big, wide, circular turn around only 2 houses down. OK...it was 3 times. But I was wearing my Air Force Retired ball cap for safety and never went higher than 1st gear.

Besides, I think it deserved some fresh air and sunshine after all the rain here the past few days.

PS - Yeah...I think I'm gonna really like riding it.

No one here is going to blame you for a few lidless laps 2 houses down to the corner and back (at least I’m not). And yes you are going to love it!

Just when you think it's finally safe to get all excited...….

My helmet arrived at 5 PM. I took it out of the box and tried it on, expecting it to fit like my old Shark (same size, same modular style, etc). Could hardly get it over my ears and when I did it felt like a vise squeezing my head together. No way it would "break in" that much. Called Revzilla and discovered then that Shark changed their entire helmet "shape" product line from "round oval" to plain old "oval". My head is wide and "oval" doesn't work for me. I already wear an XL and Shark doesn't make 'em any larger now, so have to send it back and find different manufacturer. Got the RMA authorization to return it. I went from the Thrill of Victory to the Agony of Defeat.

I had no clue what manufacturer's helmet I would need now. Then I remembered Cycle Gear was open until 7 PM. Drove car there to try on some helmets to figure out what to get. Had no idea they were having a "Moto Madness" sale Mar 3 - 10. Sales rep was outstanding helping me out. I am the proud owner of a new Shoei modular with Bluetooth helmet comm set (which they took pity on me and even installed in the helmet for me) at a great discount price. Plus I got their military discount for being an ol' retired military dude. I paired it to my iPhone and turned on my music and was rocked by the fidelity of the speakers. Beat the heck outta my Sharktooth system, and I really liked that one when I had it.

Unless there is a hurricane with snowdrifts here tomorrow, I'm finding a parking lot to do donuts in. Along with practicing the Owners Manual skills stuff too, of course.

I'm happy for you that it worked out well in the end. My Cycle Gear guys have been good to me over the years too. My go-to MC accessory and gear store. I like buying things eyeball to eyeball and not clickety click on a 'puter, unless I just have to.

    I rode 2 wheels for 50 years.
Then came the day, I could no longer pickup my ElectraGlide and knew the time had come.
I decided on the Spyder RT jumped on and rode off.
I had all your worries on an HD TriGlide, but NONE the CanAm.
The only reason I can come up with was seeing TWO wheels up front instead of the one. My brain immediately interpreted this as CAR.
So, if you were an experienced two wheeler I would not concern yourself. Take it around the lot a few times then roll on out.

Man Falcon, I wish I had mine. In January I bought a brand new 2018 RT Limited dark. Still not home, it's at the dealer. Worse part is they put it in storage so I can't even visit it. There is so much snow and salt and below freezing temps it won.t be coming home soon. I financed part of it and will be making my second payment soon. Just found out I will be out of town the first week of April for work. I could have them deliver it but I would have to move one of the stored cars out of the garage, just to walk by it each day and shed a tear...

I really feel sorry for Falcon - he is probably out riding as I type this. My day - watching last nights snow melt away and hoping the downspouts thaw before I get some unwelcome damage .

No riding for another month at least for me. In the meantime hoping to get my new luggage rack and topcase installed this weekend.

Quit ratting me out. I'm trying to build a reputation here as a responsible new Spyder owner.

However, on a Friday morning there are no empty parking lots to be found. It's a work and school day everywhere. So I circled my subdivision several times. Slowly...a little less slowly...…."Dammit! Quit pushing the horn button when upshifting!!!". (For future reference, don't do that when you are riding by one of the golf course tees. It really pisses the guy off in the middle of his backswing).

So after getting comfy enough (and before anybody sent the HOA Security Vehicle after the maniac rider in the 'burb), I went outside the subdivision to speed up a bit. Nothing drastic. There are some wide low traffic streets/roads near the subdivision I'm in. Got more familiar with brake response at higher speeds, etc. There are definitely some remaining 2-wheel habits I'm gonna have to replace yet.

    1. I have a strong desire to reach for the handlebar clutch and brake handles that aren't there anymore.

    2. It's a 20-ish percent chance I WILL honk the horn while trying to upshift. Not used to having to move my thumb that far down to push something yet.

    3. Yes, I actually went to put my foot down at a couple stop signs. Thank God my legs were too short to touch the ground past the floorboards.

Does the feeling that you are gonna get thrown off the Spyder or do a tipover in a turn ever go away??? It feels really planted in turns, but my brain still screams "NO!!!" when I turn corners.

But it's still a keeper. No regrets buying it after today's adventure.

Yes it goes away as does the desire to reach for a clutch or brake. If fact I really like not having to reach for a clutch. Just keep riding and you'll get better and have boatload of fun.

I’ll add to that that you’ll also stop pressing the horn instead of the shift paddle and or turn signal after some consistent city driving where you have to get the reps in. Your thumb will also start to figure what the horn button feels like so you won’t think about it so much. In the meantime you are going to honk at a few people when you don’t intend to!

I'm going to say no, but you get used to it. In fact the thrill from the feeling of "hanging on" replaces the thrill of leaning around corners on a two wheeler. Just as much or more fun, but different!

I've been riding a Spyder for 5 years now and still hit the horn button once in awhile! And after I've been riding my Honda ATV with electric shift I'll hit the downshift instead of the upshift! That will jostle you for a moment! Good thing the Spyder engine is comfortable really revving up!
