    Default Spyder key

I'd like to put a key ring through the Spyder key. Is it possible to drill a tiny hole at the top of the key without hitting anything important? I've seen the key covers/holders, but was hoping this would be another solution.

    Default Drilling a key

Yes, I have drilled 1/8" holes in the top of both of my Spyder keys.
I believe Finless Bob or Lamonster have posted how and where to drill the hole.
I'll research my records and see what I can find.

Here is the info. See post #4.

This is another option that doesn't require possibly damaging the chip in the key.

Here’s what the prior owner did, works great and I just hang the keys around my neck.

If you take a straight pin, and poke around a tiny bit near the top center of the key: you'll find that the hole is already there!
Just take the drill bit with your hand, and open it up!

The original sleeve the keys came with does work. Still am using the originals for both my 2011 and 2014.

I did what LeftCoast did for a long time and it worked well. I just always had that sinking felling that someday I'd go to grab my key and wouldn't be there. So, now I have a small carabiner with a small short chain holding my key and its retainer, that I can clip onto my front belt loop. The chain is long enough to allow the key and holder to reach down halfway into my front pants pocket, so if anything breaks, the key and the holder will all fall on into my pocket. I also carry an non-chipped key separately, so I can access the front and rear trunk and side bags if I ever lost the chipped key.

I used duck tape around the key, with a hole for a split round thingy. Then I have a string to attach the key to a belt loop. I don't loose the key or leave it in the ignition when stopping. Not beautiful, but works. YMMV

We have those with the dark rope and a powerful magnet to detach the key for use.

I had a little material and made my own key holder. A lot cheaper and are one of a kind.

Cheaper than making a hole in the outer surface of the key??
It's about a two minute job...

If you're caution about drilling into your key, try this: http://www.bigbikeparts.com/template...2&GroupGuid=78

We have worn our keys on a lanyard like Left Coast has for 62000 miles. My wife has my spare and I have hers. We never have a sinking feeling because the keys are always around our neck, not in a jacket locked in the frunk or on the road somewhere. The OEM key holder is really secure so I always know where my keys are! All the other contraptions pictured work too!

And I don't worry about it at all! I just pull the key out of the ignition and drop it into my pocket! If I ever should lose it I will retrieve the non-chip key from behind the mirror, open the seat and trunk, and use the Torx driver to remove the passenger seat back. And there then in front of me is the chip spare key! A bit of a rigamarole to get to the spare but sure beats walking 20 miles to get another one! And there's nothing easier than just dropping the key into one's pocket. No lanyards, no carabiners, no key rings, no nuthin' to mess around with!

Local key shop may have one, otherwise several sellers on Amazon or eBay. Look for Ilco X270.
