    Default 200 mile take in.

Anyone take their Ryker in for the 200 mile check up that is in the owners manual.

I was not aware of a 200 mile check in expectation. I did see 3000 mile inspection / oil change in the manual.

My understanding was that 200 miles was the break-in period. RykerUSA is correct about the 3,000 mile inspection.

I was looking at the operators book online and it has 3000 miles and not the 200 mile page. , but the one I have at home says after the first 200 miles to take it in , has a page for the dealer to sign that it was done. There is a page for 200 miles and another for 3000.

The 200 would seem to be the break in as to the seating of the brake pads gearing etc before you ryde hard and fast. Have not seen the manual but as stated above they seem to have a dealer sign off page. Wonder what that look over will cost ryker fans....

From the Ryker manual concerning the 300 KM (200 miles) break in.

    Operating During Break-In
    A break-in period of 300 km (200 mi) is
    required for the vehicle.
After the break-in period, the vehicle
should be inspected as per the MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE.
    Engine
    During the break-in period:
    – Avoid full throttle acceleration.
    – Avoid maintaining constant RPM.
    – Avoid sustained accelerations.
    – Avoid prolonged cruising speeds.
    – If the cooling fan operates continuously during stop and go traffic, pull
over and shut off the engine to let it
cool down or speed up to let air cool
    off the engine.
    However, brief acceleration and
speed variations contribute to a good
    break-in.
    Brakes and Tires
During the break-in period, avoid hard
    braking.

My Vulcan said to be careful on the shifting stuff for a thousand miles or so.

I did seize the piston on my 80cc one lunger Yamaha back in 1966. To fast, to soon. Never did get it fixed. Anything over 40 mph and it would seize.

The higher mileage mentioned (per maintenance schedule) is when the dealer should give it the once over.

Our dealer agrees the 200 mile remark is for the break in only, but they advise coming in @600mi for a "first service." Needed or not, 3 years of service included in the deal and I will let them do it as often as they wish.

It does make a difference if you have a service contract with the dealer. If they want to do more service than required, on their dime, that's good.

The dealer suggesting a 600 mile service is a hold over from the days of the 998 twin cylinder engines. First service at 600 and then 4,500 mile intervals.

Per the Ryker Manual page 92:
    Maintenance Schedule
EVERY YEAR OR EVERY 10 000 KM (6,000 MI) (WHICHEVER COMES FIRST)
Perform all items indicated in the PRE-RIDE INSPECTION
    Check fault codes
Replace engine oil and oil filter
    Check engine coolant level
Remove front fascia and clear all debris from radiator air duct
Visually check radiator, cooling hoses and water pump
Perform a pressure test of cooling system
    Check battery connections tightening
    Check steering for abnormal play
    Check ball joints condition
    Check tie-rods condition
    Replace CVT air filter
    Check brake fluid level
    Visually check brake hoses
Check brake pads and discs condition
Check and retighten exhaust pipe, clamping rings, joints, and gaskets condition
Visually check condition of fuel hoses, fuel evaporation lines and canister
Check front and rear wheel bearings condition
Verify park position lever operation and have the cable adjusts as required
    Check body panels looseness
The following must be performed every 10 000 km (6,000 mi)
(if used in a dusty or sandy environment - regardless of the time elapsed):
    Replace the fuel filter
Replace engine air filter and clean the housing

The reference to the 3000 mile "break in" shows up on page 95 of the Ryker manual.

I am getting my information from the BRP web page "user guides" Not going to print out 183 pages.

They Ryker seems to be different from the Spyders we are used to.

My dealer did indicate to return at 200 mile so they could check it out and re-torque the fasteners.
