Need some Sage advice - Considering moving from 2012 RT-S to 2016 RT Limited
Hello,
I am looking at a 2016 RT Limited listed on the iMotorSportsinc web site.
Here's a link it you want to see it - https://www.imotorsportsinc.com/defa...=xAllInventory
I have a couple of questions about the 2016 RT Limited (Chrome trim).
1) Is the GPS included with this model or is it an additional option?
2) How hard is it to add the GPS if it is not installed?
3) How does the gas mileage compare between the 998, 5 speed and the 1330, 6 speed?
4) Is the 2016 RT still as big a pain in the butt to change oil?
5) Any other comments you would like to share.
Thank you for your help,
Gridley

I will answer #3 and #4 for you.
Gas mileage differences. 998's usually average 30 mpg. 1330's average 38-40 mpg. This information across 4 998's and 30K miles on the 1330. 145,000 miles on spyders total.
Maintenance intervals on the 1330 are less than the 998. Break in service at 3500 on 1330 compared to 600 on 998. Intervals for oil change on 1330 around 9,000 miles or ONCE a year--which ever occurs first. No valve check service for the 1330's. Oil change intervals on the 998 recommended at 4500 miles or so.
Oil changes still a pain.

The bike you're looking at does have the GPS mount on it. The RTL came with a GPS. Just make sure the dealer includes the detachable GPS head with the bike. Some dealers will remove the head for safe keeping until the bike sells. And some may try to charge you extra for the GPS head that came with the bike in the first place. Fuel mileage is right at 40MPG unless you are doing constant interstate speeds. Then it drops down a bit. As for oil changes, my dealer started charging 2 hours labor plus cost of oil change kit. For a long time, they were only charging 1 hour labor and I tolerated that. But now going to a 2 hour charge has placed their service charge beyond my willingness to pay. My warranty runs out in May and the dealer has now done his last oil change on my bike. I will learn. Considering delivery to your home, virtually a "new" 3 year old bike and a 30% price reduction from where the bike sold new, I think this is a reasonable deal. I'd sure find out if the bike is still covered by warranty and if so, that is a bonus and may even be able to be extended to a full 5 years from when the bike was first sold. Good luck and let us know how it turns out..... Jim

For a bit of comparison, there's a lady near me (Central FL) with a 2017 RTL for sale with 4800 miles on it. Steel grey color; looks to be quite nice, but I do not know the bike personally. Been listed a few weeks; asking $20,500. Negotiable?? who knows. https://nextdoor.com/for_sale_and_fr...urce=more_menu.
I can't really speak to the RT's 'cuz I ryde a 2017 F3L SE6. However, can confirm gas mileage with my 1330 engine is routinely in the 40 mpg range, usually riding 2-up; sometimes drops very slightly, and once in a while even does better than 40. Usually find myself filling up around the 250 miles traveled mark, with probably 20-25 miles worth of gas left.

Hardest thing about the oil change is removing the mirrors ( unless you have the "Magic Mirrors ). No, really, it's pretty easy.

I bought a 2017 RT from I motor sports, new carryover last year.
1330 is WAY better in every aspect I believe over 998, except maybe exhaust note.
I would not consider a 998 unless they were giving them away.
Guess that kind of states my case. oh... yes LTD came with GPS (goofy product supplied)
whether it is still there or not... who knows.

Mine came with the mount for the GPS. Since it was used, I assume the previous owner removed GPS. I thought about buying the exact replacement used, but it was too costly. Got a current model and set it up with suggestions from the sages on this forum. I am happy.
BTW, I loved my 2010 RTs. but I really REALLY REALLY love my 2016 RTL. The added grunt, the extra gear, the semi-automatic transmission. I also purchased for ImotorSports. No complaints.

1) Is the GPS included with this model or is it an additional option?
GPS did come with Limited model
2) How hard is it to add the GPS if it is not installed?
Wiring / mount should be there
3) How does the gas mileage compare between the 998, 5 speed and the 1330, 6 speed?
I had a 2012 RT as well, got 225 kms / 140 mi - my 2014 RT gets 400+ kms / 250 mi
4) Is the 2016 RT still as big a pain in the butt to change oil?
Defiantly easier
5) Any other comments you would like to share.
Overall a huge improvement and say goodbye to the heat issues!
