Great post Deb! What's up with Brian's four way flashers? It looks like they are on all the time. That would drive me nuts if I was riding behind him!

It is fun to follow the events in CA as I toil at my mundane farming activities here in PA. It makes me want to RYDE.
Thanks for the travel log Deb.

Hey Bruce, Actually Brian's flashers aren't on at all. It must be something about the way my camera catches the light of the tail lights along with the road vibration that makes it look this way.

We are having a good time and getting up now to get ready for breakfast.

They're LED's (I'm assuming Brian has aftermarket tail lights) and flash at a very high frequency... faster than your eye can detect. It's called PWM - pulse width modulation. Your eye sees the average intensity - say half time on and half time off which makes them look half as bright. It's the easiest way, electronically, to vary the brightness of an LED. In this way, they can use the same LED's for both running and brake lights... PWM them for running (less bright) and turn them full on without the high frequency flashing for brake (brighter).

The video camera's frame rate is out of sync with the flash frequency and catches the LED's in frames alternately, sometimes on and sometimes off, making the video image appear to flash. Notice when he hits the brakes (and the PWM switches from high frequency flashing to full on) that the video image appears on always.

Sorry but no blog until tomorrow night. I have some great pics and video of our group canyon ride to share with everyone. It will take quite a while to put it all together though and we are getting up very early to get moving across the desert again.

Okay, this still isn't much of a blog but we just stopped after 12 hours of riding today. We are just absolutely beat so we stopped early so we could get some real sleep. Also we want to get up early as we are in the desert and it is hot. Right now we are in Carson City, NV. But I don't want to leave everyone hanging. I left off on the big day. Saturday, the main event! So what I am going to to is post some photos with captions. I hope that will help get you all through your blog withdrawal.

Okay as you know, the day started off with Breakfast at the Hard Rock Cafe. It was buffet style and it was very good.

Duane and Wanda in line at one of the many buffets so that no one had a long wait.

    Spydergirl (Katelyn and her husband)

    Brian (bjt) and Beth (BlackWidon)

Spanky with Beth and Debbie (Hawkii's wife)

    Smokster (Greg and Nancy)

After Breakfast we were given time to walk around and get pictures while we waited for the presentation.

I have to find my photos of the presentation, but they aren't that good regardless. Marc LaCroix handed out the awards and got everyone fired up and then we got in line for the movie. Everyone got free popcorn, pop and candy. Not too bad.

Here's Brian and me with Bumblebee

Next came the part everyone was waiting for, the Canyon Ride. It was awesome. I have some photos here and I am processing about 9 minutes of video so you can all go on the ride with us. As soon as it is ready, I will post it.
SpyderBear had to go of course,

Check out the spyders in the mountains

Here is another one of Brian and me at the spyder stop.

Here is a short video that I took at our mid way stop.

I will post photos of the dinner and stuff from the way home later. I have got to get some sleep. Hope you enjoy these though.

    Default Canyon Ride Video

Here it is, about 10 minutes of the ride. It takes a moment to load though.

It is just an inexpensive Kodak Zi6 but I love it. I can take still pics, VGA or HD video. I can put up to a 32 MB memory card in it, I have a 16 right now and that has been plenty. It takes double AA batteries so I keep extra around and I never lose power that way either. I do believe I payed less than $200. I just need to get a better mount from Ram, one with the plate instead of just the ball with the screw and I think there would be a bit less jiggling. Overall, I am very happy though.
