    Question Park Brake Fault

I have a 2011 Rt-S SM5. My park brake warning came up and the red light is flashing. I fixed the problem (cable came off the wheel).

Tested repair, but the warning is still flashing along with the red light. Anyway to reset this (clear fault) without taking it to the shop?

    Thanks for the help

I would think it should clear itself. Have you verified that the parking brake light switch properly functions as the cable wheel rotates? That's the micro switch on the underside of the wheel. The tab on the wheel should actuate it and release it as the wheel rotates around. You can also check it by depressing and releasing the actuating arm on it by hand, too.

AND.....isn't the cable coming off the "wheel" a sign that it needs to be adjusted......or replaced ??

    Default Little checking.....

Fluid would not be the problem as it is a cable operated system and not connected to the fluid but as mentioned the cable coming off could have affected the switch and something to check. Back then it was a problem and the cable did not need adjusting all the time. Some folks put a small "L" bracket to keep the cable from jumping off. If still no luck try the battery disconnect.....

No but Murphy says that the brake fault light might not have anything to do with the parking brake.

if cable came off it likely did something with the switch that indicates position & or the cam the cable rides on in relation to correct position. Get access where you can manually close the switch. & test it, then test & fit the cam alignment properly

Thank you all for the input. I found the problem, it was the Parking Brake Switch. There is a pressure arm that the Pulley contacts when you push the button. The pressure arm was bent and fell off, easy to over look because of where it is mounted. Have to order the Pulley ($44.00) and switch ($36.00).
