Garmin map update.
For those of you with a Garmin GPS in North America. It looks like Garmin has released a map update, 2020.10.
A nice warm inside job on a cold winter day.

how do you get the update to load on the Garmin Zumo?

Plug your zumo into your computer, then start up Garmin Express. The two should "link up" and then you'll be shown your options for updating, if an update is available for your GPS.

Well first one has to GET Garmin Express.
It should be available in the support section of the Garmin web site.

I was thinking one should be coming out soon. Was waiting to update my Excursion’s until it did, don’t have lifetime maps in it.

Great catch. I always forget doing this this until I need it.

Is this a free update or do you have to pay for it?

If your Zumo is an LM model the updates are free. If it is not you pay.

If you are not sure if you have Lifetime Maps, just try to download it. If it works, fine, if not, pay the fee or bail out.

Given the PRICE of the Zumo's, I would hope that they all are LM's.

Just updated my Nuvi 50LM. LM stands for lifetime maps - a beautiful feature

Zumo 590 are all lifetime maps. The Zumo 660s. Early ones are not and later ones are. Take the battery out and look at the label. If the model has a LM in it. It is lifetime maps.

I have the Garmin 660 that is not LM. When I plug it into my computer and go to Garmin Express it says my device is up to date and that I have version 5.10. What am I missing.....? I am not real good at computer stuff so I suspect I am not doing something correctly. Any advice.....? Jim

You might need to do a 'Garmin Express Update' and then try to update your 'GPS'. The new 'GPS' update should be 2020.10. Call Garmin or check online if you have a problem.....

I did do and Express update and nothing about 2020.10 for my GPS. My GPS was updated about a year and a half ago. I think I will just live with what I have for now. Changes made in the last year or so are not critical for me. Thanks much for the advice though..... Jim

Took me about 20 mins to load once I could get the gps to connect. The connection has been real finicky. On the plus side I did find a replacement battery for 21 bucks which is still s huge rip off but less than Amazon.

Version 5.10 is your firmware. Firmware updates are free always. No matter if you have lifetime maps or not.
First check to see if you have the latest Garmin Express installed. Click on the gear icon on the top. Then click on check for updates. You should be at version 6.11.1.0

This was my problem too. Loaded latest "express" and now it works on my 660. Updating now......at 1.5 hours to complete (it says). Also told it I only need US, not the entire continent :-))
