Default Montreal and the East Coast

Ok so I am looking for help with trip planning.

I am taking my family to the Montreal Gran Prix in June. The first 3 days will be all about the F1 race but the next x number of days after that are open. For less than wonderful reasons I don’t want to get into this will be a special family trip.

At the moment we don’t know whether to plan the next 7-10 (just an estimate right now) days all in Canada or work our way down the east coast and finish in NY then fly home. It will be my wife and my 20 and 15 yr old sons.

I’d love suggestions from my Canadian and east coast Spyder friends or anyone that has taken a similar trip or visited that had an experience they thought should be shared. It doesn’t have to be action packed. I personally would like to sit in a small town and eat some good seafood and spend quality time with family as part of the trip and perhaps work our way down the eastern seaboard but it’s just one idea.

Any and all suggestions are appreciated!

    Thanks.

I'm guessing you will be renting a car ……. two things on the north east coast you don't want to miss are Acadia Nat'l Park in Maine ( near Bar Harbor ) …. and Driving up the Auto rd. to the top of Mt. Mansfield ……… If you give me some advance notice I could easily put you up for a few days ….. Let me know …. Mike

I would drive Northeast from Montreal to Quebec City. Then drive down into Maine and hit Bar Harbor and Acadia Natl Park (assuming the government shutdown is over by June ha, ha).. Then make my way south to Mt Washington. Then head back east to NY.

HI, If you do stop in Vermont , Here is a suggested route to take: Route 100 North/South. Take Route 100 North to Stowe, The are plenty of shops/ restaurants,/ Inns/motels to see.

Also be sure to Take Route 108 in the Stowe area which is named Smugglers Notch, It is very twisty and excellent spyder riding road.

Will you be going thru New Hampshire?

If you are visit Conway ( home of Mount Washington/ Cog Railway). While you are in Conway take a ride on the Route 112 the Kancamagus Highway. It has scenic overlooks/ campgrounds/ hiking trails/ ponds. The Kancamagus highway is 35 miles long, and if you are taking the spyder, be sure to gas up before you go on the Kancamagus Highway. There is no gas stations on the road. This road is well known to motorcyclist from around the country. I have been on the Kancamagus high way several times.

Also, an other road off the Kancamagus highway is" The Bear Notch Road" which is also a very nice motorcycle/spyder road. This road takes you to the" town of Bartlett" off of Route 302. They have scenic over views.

Go straight to Maine and work your way along the coast. We did that as part of a 2 month trip last summer to eastern Canada and New England. Absolutely the best 10 days of the trip. Stay in little fishing villages and avoid tourist traps as much as possible.

Or, spend your time traveling around Nova Scotia (New Scotland).

    Not both.

This sounds like a great road trip. I like the suggestion to shoot over to Quebec City. I have just started looking into taking a ride there this year myself. That would make a good way to get to Acadia National Park. From there, head down the coast and there are a number of nice towns to visit. Camden is nice, the Old Port of Portland and Kennebunkport in Maine. I would also recommend my home town of Portsmouth, NH as well as nearby Newburyport, Gloucester and Salem MA.

    Good Luck with the planning!

Definitely try to take in Quebec city. Being in my home province and my mother in law lives there, we visit a few times a year. Lots of nice little restaurants and shops. Lots to see. Have a great trip.

The good news is, You will not have the hypodermic needles and poop on the street problem as you do in San Fran.

NY does has crazy high taxes so avoid this state at all costs !!!!!! You are visting at a good time of year weather wise, You should have a great time and I wish you a great trip. Wherever you go, make sure your kids have WIFI. Nothing worse than hanging out with your parents without it.

I love Canada, been there 3 times so far. I can advise you to visit their very informative official page https://www.canada.travel/ as here you can find a lot of information on weather, cities, possible routs, where to rent property in Canada or to eat best local food. Good luck and we will wait for your pics! I envy you in a good way now )))

If you are going thru Maine take Route 1 ( it is the Coastal Route) there are plenty of places, restaurants, hotel/motels/ inns to stay at, and abundance of sea food.
