    Default Over heated upper compartment?

Our 2017 RT is great and we love it. Miss riding now because of the damn winter and it is only getting colder!! Has anyone experienced an extreme amount of heat under and in the upper compartment? The one between your legs and under the handle bars. After riding for a couple of hours in normal tempatures, it is so hot that the extra keys I keep in there are too hot to touch!! What is under there that could cause so much heat??? Any ideas will be appreciated.

The engine is under there. The 2013 heat recall vents will help the air flow under the body work.http://www.2wheelpros.com/oem-parts/...0388-part.html

Mine gets hot.......but not THAT hot.
What color is your body work ?

I am amazed at how much the sun can heat up black things.
The black cover on my bars often gets almost too hot to touch.......but I am in Florida.

that's the best solution. There has been a lot of discussion about this issue on the forum over the years.

    Default Interesting....🤔

Being a 2017 it is strange you would have this problem. All the venting was designed for the 998 engine and yours has the 1330. Might pull some panels and check to see there is not something not hooked up right or leaking . There will be heat from the engine but should not be that great...

Our 2014s both had a heat problem in the glove box. I installed the vent kits and now we can put chapstick in there without it melting.

…… there have thousands of RT's with the 1330 engine in them …. there have only been a couple of HEAT IN THE GLOVEBOX posts, IMHO there might be some insulation in your RT that's not there for some reason..... I wouldn't carry chocolate in my glove box …. but my cigarette lighters are fine in there, and the fuel in them is very heat sensitive ………….good luck …. Mike

No prob with my 2018 - gets warm but the phone never turned off using Bluetooth. Missing insulation sounds like a good start!

Good to know as the whole reverse fans, radiators up front etc was supposed to help all that. Maybe the fans are not reversing when stopped...

We don’t call it the “Top Oven” for nothing, you could cook one of those gas station burritos in it. I used to keep my riding candy in there, on one trip I thought it was cool enough to have Milk Duds in it. Boy was I wring, I don’t think I ever got all of the chocolate out of it.

We installed the 2013 side air scoop vents designed to cool Spyder down. We put them on our 2014 RTL as I like the look.
Had full install which also removes sound baffles allowing lots of air flow. My center top glove box stays fairly cool all summer no mater what the weather.

My 2018 RT-L has the air box under it.

This vid shows it being removed,But you cannot see the underside for any insulation.

Be sure to check your exhaust system - a leak could add additional heat, there.

Another vote for the scoops! The kit is only $50. They arrived looking a bit "cheap plastic" bit I painted them flat black to look great. The only down side is *drilling holes* in your shiny ride! I put a piece of paper on it to mark the holes and still got one wrong by 1/8". But it was under the scoop. The other thing is a bar you get that replaces a large panel under the oil filter area. This opens up tons of air flow. You'll pucker up drilling holes, but they look good and are functional. Phone used to be so hot you barely could touch it. Now just warm.

The bike in the photo has or is having the scoop kit installed. The steel brace replacing the accoustic panels can be seen already attached.
