Wow! Did you have small wire ties between the electrical connectors for tethers?
No ties. The stock wiring connectors held the mirrors.

Lamonster only sells the 6 pack now and would not sell me the 4 pack, for some BS reason, so I built my own. Took the advice of another SL'er here, and ordered the magnets on Ebay and Ace Hardware supplied the rest of the parts. For a little extra security and tighter fit, I cut a thicker washer and replaced the upper attachment with it. Didn't see the need for a tether as the OEM wire connectors are quite sturdy enough to do the job. When I drop my off spyder at the dealer for whatever reason I do not leave the mirrors on it, I take them with me when I leave. I trust the CAN AM certified mechanic, but I don't trust the other service staff enough to leave my mirrors attached, if you get my drift (no malice intended). For the actual cost of the parts, under $10.00, I don't see why the BRP design engineers didn't or haven't included this type of mirror attachment long before now.

while on a strange road very late on a rainy night in NE Georgia I drove my '13 RT over a railroad track crossing that had a maybe one foot ramp up on the approach, but a good two foot drop on the far side, I was airborne. When I landed both my un-tethered mirrors popped off. But they stayed connected to the electrical connectors
Wow! I think you may the first one to report having magnet mounted mirrors pop off! They stay on through a lot of beating!

I was definitely driving too fast for conditions on a strange road at night, in the rain, and the landing was hard. I count myself blessed though as the mirrors still stayed attached to the Spyder and definitely went back on so much faster than the stock pin and clip connectors.

I have had them on my Spyder for about a year now with no problems. I love them, easily remove the mirrors for maintenance. Great product. I only got the 2 bottom ones and left the top original. Works for me.

Nobody answered my question. But to join in, I don't use any tether and have had no issues. They are tight. As I recall, when they were first introduced, they came with a tether. But the inventor decided that they were not needed and stopped including a tether to the package. Tethered or not, they are a great invention.
Ricford, Though they were originally designed and marketed by Russell Culley in Tasmania, they are marketed all over and there are several US distributors. It's likely there area several dozen sets out in the Spyder world, though not all Spyder riders belong to this Forum. Maybe Lamonster's Garage can tell you how many they sold, and Value Accessories can tell you how many they've sold, but that wouldn't even be the total sold in the US as Russell originally sold direct, I bought mine from him.

Just got me a set from Lamonster today and have installed using all the magnets with no tethers (just the wire plug-n). The brand new 2018 factory mounts sure made me nervous taking them off and I never even tried to put them back on after hammering them off. Nobody should have to beat the plastic to remove mirrors!!! DUH - Bad design for sure! BRP take note and make the changes up to and including hopefully a magic mirror reimbursement to owners (say $100.00?) for replacing brand new parts on a brand new machine because of this OEM mirror mounting defect. What the heck??
Thanks for letting me vent.

I too have the Magic Mirrors. But I don't use the top magnet. I like the stock
top holder. I hang the top part of the mirror first. Then the mirror just falls in place.
I used all 3 at first but the mirror fell off when I leaned on it when washing. It can't fall off
now. And I don't use the spacer on the front magnet, it fits right against the front tupperware now.

… The upper OEM BRP connection was never an issue, and ... It actually holds the mirror better than three magnets …. if " DGoebel " had it set up the way you do His would'nt have come off..... imho the tethers are such a simple thing, that guarantee's the mirror won't hit the ground.... Yes His didn't either and I'm very surprised that they didn't. The lamp wiring in the mirror is the smallest used because the lamp is not a lamp it's an LED which doesn't need thick wires..... I always use mine...…. Mike

Looking at Deanna post, it looks like the large washer/magnet on then top of the bike side rests on the plastic. Does this necessitate removing the magnet bolt every time the Tupperware is removed?

HI, Yes, it does necessitate removing the large/magnet on top of the bike that rests on the plastic if you have to remove the Tupperware.

I have the magic mirrors on all three points and you do not have to remove the magnets to get the body work off. It's close, but it works.
I also use all three magnets and use the black spacers behind the magnets. These spacers keep the upper Tupperware free to move around and remove without taking the magnet off.
I just designed and finished installing my own tether safety straps! Very simple and it turned out great.
I used 1/16" galvanized cable and purchased garage door cable clamps. Both mirrors now have a safety tether just in case.
Magic Mirrors were created by our friends down under (Australia) to make the removal and installation of mirrors easy. They are magnets that replace the pins and slots that BRP uses. So, they eliminate one from having to use force to remove the mirrors and make the installation of the mirrors a snap. Hope this answers your question
