We watched the special report of Bush's arrival in College Station. The funeral train was being pulled by engine # 4141. Now we know the "rest of the story."

UP said 4141 was a working locomotive, i wonder if it got the paint refreshed upon the announcement of Bush 41s passing? Looked pretty sharp and classy

Working means functioning, not regular use on the rails. Didn't need a paint refresh. It's been sitting in the shop since 2005 after it was dedicated to the Bush Library.

Well thats a waste of 4000+HP and several million $s to boot. Not that the cause is a waste but it could be visible to the rest of the country not just Texas....IMO

The original post stated the Locomotive 4141 was commissioned in 2005 for this specific purpose and that it will remain at the Bush Presidential library. Other Presidential libraries have similar "big iron" displays.

The financing details behind the project do not seem to have been mentioned. Since it was stored at the Union Pacific rail yard, I am guessing this was an engine about to be decommissioned. They do this with old ships as well. Many headed for the scrapyard have been refurbished and made into museums. Most of these are financed by donations from the public.
