Thanks for your continued support/and following this thread. The roads still have salt/snow on them. Also we still have ALOT OF SNOW here. This week the weather is cold, and we are getting an other messy snow storm this weekend( we are getting snow, sleet, freezing rain, rain). This winter keeps dragging on ! The weather has to break soon!

Yes, Change is a good thing.

I understand completely. 12 hours is an awful long shift which is why most companies, as far as I'm aware, who work extended shifts only work 10 hours. And don't feel like you have to blame it on age. When I was 20 I worked at a sawmill unloading log trucks. It wasn't strenuous, but I was on the go the full 11 hours of the shift. After 5 days, 55 hours for the week, I was shot and was totally useless for any weekend activities!

I don't blame you at all on the 12 hour shifts. It is easier to look for a job (so I have heard) when you have one - hope this time isn't as stressful as your last when looking. Hope you find something of your liking soon.
I work 4 10's and that is the most I want to do as I am finishing up my career - I turn 60 in July.
My daughter is a nurse and does 3 - 12's but she is young and just starting her career.

I hate to say it, but I think it will be difficult to explain why she is ready to leave this new job so soon after starting.

I agree, 12 hr shifts are very hard. I did them for 7 yrs from the age of 27-34. People say” wow look at the time you have off” but a lot of that time is spent recuperating from the days you worked. I did four nights then 3 days, your body just never adjusts to it! Good luck on finding something new. Sending positive vibes.

If you have to work shift work IMO 12 hrs shifts are way to do it as long as the work is not too physically or mentally demanding...and yep shift work is for younger bodies...I worked in the electrical generation business all my career and lots of us older guys struggled to get adequate sleep. When I started, we worked 3 shifts, 7 on for afternoons and midnights...doing back breaking physical work...as a 20 year old fit male it #$%^& near killed me....plus your social life revolves around fellow shift workers....cause who wants to go to the bar at midnight lol

After retirement, I supplemented my income by doing two 12 hour shifts on the weekends. It took me a full 2 days to get back to a normal routine so effectively I was spent for 4 days. Then I had 3 good days and it started all over again. My job was not mentally or physically taxing. But the irregular routine was upsetting. I was in my mid 60s and way too old to be happy. I lasted a year but will not try that again..... It's to your favor to look for a job when you don't "need" one. Just like a boyfriend (girlfriend)..... don't get rid of the old one until you have a new and better one...... best of luck to you..... Jim
