Default Brake pedal release leads to VSS Fault

adding LED bulbs this weekend. had rear up on car ramp. checked nanny reaction after each bulb swapped. only after bringing all 3 tires back to ground did this VSS fault appear. upon scouring this site for more information, I already have a new Main Relay on the way, but I also performed 3 key trick, where I turned it off/on 3x quick. mind you, foot was on the brake pedal, but the fault disappeared completely. and as soon as the brake pedal was released, immediately re-appears. like clockwork. repeatedly.

take the key away from the bike for a couple of minutes to allow the computer to reset. and then restart the spyder (might Work).

    Default Try This....

Did you go out and ryde afterwards...? if you get the VSS code and the computer does not see that the problem has been corrected it may not cancel the code. I have had the VSS code for several move made while ryding but always cleared after ryding stopping and letting the computers reset with the key removed. If not you may have to have BUDS hooked up to see whats going on. Only other thing would be if your light installation has interfeared with the senors for the VSS..

If you changed the brake lights from incandescent to LED that could be causing the issue. What's bad about a Can-Bus system is that messing with one part of the Electrical system can cause issues in another completely different system.
Similar to how the gear position sensor going bad affects the power steering.

would resistors then make a difference?

So, this is an older GS/RS? You had the rear wheel up on a ramp, but no mention that you spun it without spinning the front wheels. So, I'm leaning towards the light bulbs, also. There should be a code set. What is it? If it's C0040, then it's the new LED bulbs.
