    Default DPS alert

New 18 F3T about a month ago. Yesterday riding down a 4 lane at 58 mph with cruise engaged the DPS light comes on and PS is dead. Took about 15 minutes from there to home where I let it sit for a minute or so. Cranked it back up, full PS working. Rode around town for 45 minutes or so no problem. Took it to my dealer this morning they cleared the code, said no other codes, must have been a "glitch". I rode around town much of the day no problem. This evening I went into full test mode. I duplicated the route from last night and sure enough about the same spot on the same road it coded again. I immediately pulled over, cut it off and did the reset. PS worked for about 5 seconds and coded again. I rode another mile to a two lane and decoded again. I rode back to town about 7 miles no code. This is a circular route as I turned back on the same 4 lane again, set cruise to about 58 and at the same spot it coded again. Same routine, reset, coded again in a few seconds, went to the same spot on the 2 lane and reset again. Rode back to town no problem. I did this circle four times and every time at the exact same spot on the 4 lane it coded. Short of cosmic rays it must be a time issue I told myself. In other words it comes on at the same place every time because it goes the same time and distance before it codes. I went and found another 4 lane where I could go same speed and distance and no code. I went about 4 times as far with cruise at 58 mph and no code. I'm leaving 10/13 for Daytona and I do not want to have to deal with this. Question one: anybody ever heard of this? 2: If I continue down the rode in code will it put me in limp mode? Thanks!

If it doesn't do it any place else but the one spot IMO it's interference from something in the area. Any towers or high tension lines around?

I have a 17 F3T, and it has the same DPS as your Spyder, on a long trip in August I got the DPS error twice. First time was at the end of the day the light came on and stayed on until I stopped for fuel, I had no power steering, don’t remember what the code was but it cleared when I restarted. The next morning the code came back on shortly after I got on the road and stayed on for the remainder of the fuel run. That was about 6,000 miles ago and it has not happened since.

    Default dps alert

Can Am says it's an indication of a magnetic field. Only "towers" around that I can see are 2 cell towers one on each side of the road. Cell phone had been on ram mount plugged in to charger each time the dps alerted. I tried it twice with phone unplugged from usb and it DID NOT alert either time. I would have tried it more times but I was sick of riding up and down this road. 1300 miles, the only place it has alerted is that same place every time. I rode a demo 18 F3T down the same road and no alert. ???????????

    I'd stay off that road....

    External interference seems probable.

    Default DPS ALERT Great Trouble-shooting

You have found the cause yourself, being in close proximity to cell towers places you in an area of very strong RF fields, and with your phone plugged in to the USB connections it is very likely that the cell signals coupled into the CANBUSS and upset the computer. My $.02! You are persistent and methodical

Get in touch with BRP customer service and give them all the information. They've been very helpful in my DPS problem turning off in sharp turns @ 30 mph.

Have some patience as they take a little longer to investigate the situation.

Today about 300 miles into my trip and I got the DPS error again, P0650 code, no power steering but it cleared when we stopped for gas. I was cruising about 70-75 mph with the cruise on when I noticed the check engine light.

Check your battery cables. Tighten them. May not be the problem but DPS takes a lot of juice and loose cable causes this error. Don't just wiggle them. They will seem tight. Put a wrench on it. Many post on here about that problem.

I have the new “brushless DPS” that is not supposed to be as big of a power draw as previous models. I was not starting the bike when this happened, in fact I was 70 or 80 miles into a tank of gas when it happened. I will take it to the dealer when I get home, whennit happened in August it did it twice then nothing until today.
