    Question Spyder Fire

I see a Facebook post yesterday of a Spyder on fire while riding down the highway. Someone posted this is a known problem. First I have heard anything.

This was a problem about five years ago... check to see when that fire actually happened.

    Default On the web....🤔

Pops up from time to time when folks search but do not pay attention to the date and don't read any more about it...

Did BRP ever s**t can those design engineers from 9 years ago or have they all been moved up to management level? I wonder if they implement the peter principle in Canada like we do here in the USA.

I believe that you are conflating two separate issues:
uncomfortable heat from under the bodywork
    Dangerous heat within the bodywork

The original GS/RS models did have some problems with being uncomfortably hot...

But as a general rule: they didn't burn up.

The only year where we saw dangerous heat being contained in the bodywork was 2013...

The fire subject does come up from time to time. About 120,000 's out there now. Less than 20 documented fires. I am thinking no more, no less than other brands.

I know, if you were one of the unlucky 20, it is a big deal.

Many times, the fire pictures are posted by those wanting to make a point about the brand being a hazard. Dates are important. The last go around we had here was a five year old picture that someone posted.

Heat issues came to the forefront in 2013. They were mostly fixed on that model by installing new venting.

I have had five different years--but no 2013. I do have an 11 and a 14. No heat issues or problems here. Yes, I am not afraid of my burning up. PS. I still carry full insurance coverage--just in case.

could they also be caused by improperly installed aftermarket accessories (such as lighting)?

Yes a few Spyders had a problem but this was 4 or 5 years ago.

It sounded to me like the RS that burned yesterday was likely an evap canister issue. Just my feeling.

Remember that over 100,000 Spyders have been sold and the number of fires is really small.
