    Default Remote Garage Door Opener

I was browsing Lamonster I believe and saw they had a garage door opener for the bike. I thought that was a good idea but they were always out of stock every time I looked. So I decided to make one myself. Found a water proof momentary switch that matches my Spyder switches. Got an extra remote for my garage door opener. I also got a dc to dc converter to convert the 12 volts to 3 volts so I did noy have to replace the battery and the remote would only work with the key on but decided against using it for now since I placed it where I can get to it easy.

So this is what I did.

    1. Program the new remote to the garage door.
    2. Opened the remote and soldered a wire pair across the switch that was programmed to open the door.
    3. Sealed the remote case with silicone to prevent water getting in.
    4. Used Velcro and mounted the remote under the switch console where it should remain dry.
    5. Removed the blank from the switch panel.
    6. Feed the wire to the new switch and snapped the switch in to place.

    Great DIY...Looks very OEM.
I did the same but put the push button on the left side panel.

Where did you get the DC to DC Step down?

Agree with just put a remote opener in the glove box. Mine is the aftermarket "2 door" opener type (I think Chamberlin brand) bought at home depot.

Same here. I have 2 remotes. 1 for the Spyder, the other for the vehicle. Although, I have mine attached, with velcro, on my Spyder dash. Perfect, and easy access!

My solution...easy and free. I place the remote and spare key in a jacket pocket, so I am able open/close the garage door from the bike. I also have a spare key handy if I should lose the active one. The small key is for the Lid Locks.

I did the same thing years ago. Tiny, momentary button on the left dash. NO fumbling around for a remote. Cost pennies. For a garage kept -- this is a must. Would you not have an easy to reach garage door switch/button for your CAR????

On my F3, I use 3M Dual Lock (a "super" velcro type fastener) to fasten my remote. Somewhat easily removed when I get off and walk away from the Spyder.

Yep. Good bit of work there.

I have a couple of rides so I pop the remotes in the glove box or jacket pocket.

I do much the same, except that I attached my remote with velcro tape to the inside of my glovebox. Just pop the lid to my glovebox and press the button. Wound up costing me maybe 10 cents and works like a charm.

Hey shardt how did you get that dummy blank out of the switch plate without removing the plate? Or did you remove the side panel to remove the plate to get to it?

Just remove the side panel and reach in there to release it. No problem unless you have fat hands/arms.

I used a small screwdriver. There are tabs on the top and bottom of the blank. Use the screwdriver and slide it under the blank on the bottom and pry up. It will pop out easy.

Thanks for the replies guys. I actually had the job done before I got your reply shardt. K80 you saved me a bunch of time. I was prepared to pull the long back panel and front panel thinking I would have to pull up the entire console. I didn't realize you could pop the blank out while the console was still installed in position. It only took about 15 minutes to install my new Mo-Door garage door opener (which costs way more than it should) but looks and works great! I am one happy camper tonight. I appreciate the write-up which helped a bunch!

I got a universal remote and used velcro to mount by gas filler. Top left button opens the gate at the end of our driveway and the top right opens the shop door where the Spyder gets parked. Still leaves me with a couple of more buttons that I can use in the future for something.

Not sure what you have for a ride, but most kits come with the switch. Did you check out our vendors?

My switch came with my Mo-Door kit I bought from SlingMods. I highly doubt it is water proof.

Very nice. I did something similar on mine. The only difference is my CDO (that's OCD with the letters in correct alphabetic order) forced me to use an OEM switch. I used a windshield switch to get the momentary contact and colored in the windshield graphic. That way it has the arrows on it and it's also lit at night. I won't bother you with photos unless someone asks.
