Default What is this. Something missing?

I was checking the forward sprocket for the dreaded red dust (none there) and noticed this stud directly below and slightly aft of the front sprocket. It has two sets of searated splines and doesn't look like it had anything attached. Anyone have an idea what it is and am I missing any parts.....? 2014 RTL Thanks

    Yes, shifter shaft.

It looks like the shifter shaft. Can you still change gears.

    Default Shifting shaft

It is the shifting shaft. You have a SE6, so the shaft is not used.

    Default Shaft

Seems odd that the shaft would be there on a SE6 for what purpose other than poor engineering?

The transmissions are the same on the se6 and sm6. Why spend the extra money to design a different one.

It's a fail-safe. If your electric shift goes belly-up you can always shift manually!

    Default all of the above....

It's too bad they don't give you an extension with lever in case you should ever have a paddle shifter or actuator problem...My wing had a kick starter in the tool kit and it did come in handy on more than one occasion....

    Default Shift shaft

Just how would you use this shaft in a emergency with foot pad in place? Makes no sense? Never read a single post till today on this subject?
