I have a 2015 Spyder RT Limited with a 6.9 gal. fuel tank. On long straight rides how many mpg should I be getting? And should I ride with the little green light that says ECO on or off? In Fuel Economy Mode or not? Right now I'm not getting very good gas mileage; but it's been mostly city driving. I'm about to take a trip from Texas to Glacier National Park; and I want to know approx. how many miles I can ride on a tank of gas???

Economy mode tells you when to shift in order to get the most efficiency from the bike. If economy is what you want, then use the ECON mode by all means.

On the open road, depending on speed, load on the bike, headwinds or wind resistance (i.e. luggage mounted on the trunk), mountainous terrain or not, you should expect between 38 and 42 mpg. Some have done better, some do worse. It all depends...I have gotten as much as 250 miles on a tank, but I normally plan on filling up at 200.

If an 1-2 MPG more. Add you stare at the shift incator more often. It does limit power when on ECO mode.

If you stay a steady speed keep it under 60MPH you can get close to 40 MPG..Start going 70 MPH figure around 32-34 MPG

But then again ethanol uses more gas too.

They got you covered, and quick too. Bottom line--ECO mode will save you 1/2 to 1 mpg on average. You will always be shifting in the lower range, and have to look at your dash more often.

I tried it when I first got the 2014. Did a whole tank of gas and faithfully shifted when told. Result--about a half mpg savings. Not worth my time and effort.

I prefer to keep mine in the 3500 rpm or so range. That is approaching the power range, and if you need to jump on it--your more ready to go.

RANT: They took away my power frunk button and gave us ECO mode. Shame on BRP for that. Rant over.

My fuel light comes on between 200 and 210 miles on my 2015 RT whether in ECO mode or not. I usually start thinking about fuel at 180 miles. Been that way since day one. Only thing ECO mode does for me is takes my eyes off the road to watch for the little green light. Worthless feature, but I'm sure someone at BRP sleeps better

UtahPete nailed it. If you are doing interstates, expect to start looking for fuel at about 180 miles. On secondary roads traveling 60-65 expect to have a very comfortable range of 200 miles. Pulling a trailer will cost you 2-3 MPG. These range guidelines should give you a good enough margin for "error".....

Eco mode just pisses me off.


I get about 33-35mpg on average. The only two things that have increased my mpg are:
1. Ethanol free gasoline! I hate that I can't get ethanol free gas in my area. You'd think that Texas would have ethanol free! (The only place is a marina, and very inconvenient.)
2. Slowing down. Watching my speed. Carefully accelerating.

Unfortunately, 1 and 2 ain't going to happen!

YUP! You have to get down to the "no bars" or below empty to put max gallons in. That is when the driving gets scary for most.

I know we drove over 30 miles on no bars this past Sunday, was at 178 miles since last fill, only put in 5.786 gals

Now that is a coincidence. My one time testing the limits--on a 998 twin got similar results. No bars--the needle was below empty (2010 RTS). 184 miles. Put in 5.8 gallons (rounded). Your number looks very familiar.

RE Mileage on 1330's. I am getting 38 - 39 mpg this year. Using 87 octane. My light goes on right around 200. I don't push it much beyond. When Linda is with me--we refill when her light goes on--about 155 or so.

As UtahPete and others have said, your mileage will vary very little whether or not you use ECO mode. At 60 mph with regular road and no headwind expect 40 MPG plus. Chasing the semis down the interstate at 75-80 you will get less than 35 Miles per gallon.

LOL.. I'm on 28K miles, and I've always just put in about 5-5.5 gallons at every fill up. Just assumed that's what it was.

But, my light comes on when it is at this point. Maybe it is coming on too soon??

No, that's my experience also.

Suggestions I'm playing around with. I started using regular gas, using ECO, keeping under 3k RPM and shifting at lower RPM's like 25/30k. I'm getting fairly consistent MPG at 39/41. Don't be looking at that little green arrow. Use your hearing to make your lower RPM shift points. If you try to make the shift too low in the RPM range, it won't shift. If you've running 91 octane and want to try regular, try to fill a nearly empty tank twice with regular and be gentle on the throttle because at first it will want to knock. That's not good. It takes a while for the ECM to adjust so give it a couple of tanks.

I think the ECO button was designed by the "fun police". I tried it for a short ride and couldn't understand why anyone on a motorcycle would ever use it... I like to wind er up between gears...well, I find that I shift between 3500 and 4000.

You might not be filling it to the top. I keep the filler out of the gas tank. Watch it come up to the filler rim. Stop--let the gas settle and then ONE more time to the filler rim.

When I started riding, I used the ECO mode to get used to the shifting points. For the past 3 weeks (after 600 miles on her), I took it off and haven't gone back. I rather enjoy being the one not only in control but having fun with the shift points. I believe it's part of that dance/ride.

I was curious as to how far I could go after the Low Fuel Light came on.
I took a small can of gas with me and ran our 2017 RTS until it quit.
Went 45 miles after the light came on.
