How to test self leveling suspension.

How can i check the self level suspension . I had the lights pointed at the wall ,then the wife got on and the light went up 2".Then i got on and the light went up 1.5".Should the lights not stay the same ?.I did check the linkage and it was connected. Through the test i did not hear the compressor.

What mystery vehicle are you asking about. I will guess it is a Spyder. But year and model?

I think for some models the engine has to be running for the suspension compressor to run.

And in first gear I had the self leveling added to my 2016 F3L, last week, have not tested it yet, I did read the installation instructions and it said something about motor running and first gear.

In order to adjust mine, it needs to be running and in gear. But, don't know about the OPs. His may differ.

The ACS only makes it's adjustments when the bike is in gear, and moving...

It is a 2018 RTL. The bike was bottoming out when hitting bumps ,and i was riding alone .In the manual for the automatic adjustment ,it gives no info that helps.

There are no longer any manual adjustments available for the system. You used to be able to play with the ride height a little bit: no more...

Maybe that is true for the completely automatic system in '18 models but before that you did NOT have to actually be moving.

Since that system is 100% automatic.....supposedly.....I think you need to make a warranty visit to your dealer.

It is possible that it is not working right.....or at all.
It is also possible that the clunk you are feeling is from some other fault.

Based on your first and second post I would suspect that you have a bad air bag system. That being said also point to the fact that you say it is bottoming out when you hit a bump means you have a bad or weak rear shock. Point to note is the air bag system if working properly can hide a bad shock . The way to test it would be in a garage with the headlights in low beam. About 20 feet or so from the wall in front of you. Release the parking brake. Have the lightest person get on and start it. With your foot on the brake place it in first gear. Now while looking at the front wall note where the cutoff line of the low beam light is. While watching the cutoff line have a passenger put their weight on the bike (stand on one side and lean their body over to the other side). The cutoff line should go up with the added weight then come back to where it was if the compressor is working.

unless the O.P. is pretty heavy, and the bumps are actually a bit more like "Huge": it shouldn't be bottoming out...

I had the bottoming out problem also on both my STL and on my F3L. I fixed both by buying Elka shocks, front only.

It bottomed out and hurt my back it hit so hard .The roads around here are crap.

False alarm,i did as you suggested and the compressor came on and the bike level off.
