    Default Fuel mileage to SpyderFest

Running the last 700 miles to Springfield on mostly Blue Highways we had good weather Tuesday and running mostly 65-67 mph with the 1330 SE6 we got great mileage on the first fillup of about 42 mpg with a slight tail wind and decreasing elevation from 5000 to 2800 ft at Garden City KS. Then we had side winds of 20 to gusts of 50 mph with storms around Pratt, KS and all day out of the south from there to Springfield, MO. We were burning mostly premium with a NO Ethanol tankful at Pratt, and only a 2.5 gal top-off of regular to get us through the "No Mans Land" in eastern KS. The last 70 mile run up I-44 still had strong crosswinds and semis to deal with at 70 mph or so.

Amazing how the last 500 miles with strong crosswinds and the Interstate did to overall gas mileage. I added up the 18.88 gals purchased along the way and divided into 700 miles and got an average of 37 mpg. As the old adage went.. Speed kills - your gas mileage, and so does crosswinds. Both bikes are broken in with 20,000 and 35,000 miles - YMMV along with opinions on oil, tires, psi etc...

Thanks for your input. Wind and speed (over 65) tend to eat that mileage up when doing short term evaluations.
