”the Jeep argument”?? “bashing” ?? .......Did you really read that into Bob and my comments, Mac?

My wife likes to wave at other bikes, kids, folks sitting on porches, and farmers in the fields. Me? not so much. Nice straight stretch of road with not much going on and I will wave, but those aren't the types of roads I want to ride. When riding a hilly, twisty road at a fast pace waving at you is the last thing I will focus on. Not stuck up, not special, just doing what I enjoy and concentrating on matters at hand. If you are sitting on the edge of the road or parked in an unusual area I WILL stop and ask if you need assistance, but wave at every bike I pass? Not gonna happen. I have a Tacoma pickup that I drive occasionally and I don't wave at every Toyota I see, how about you?

I was on a ride Sunday with about 80 other bikes. The lady on the back of the bike in front of me waved at EVERYONE including cars. It was interesting to see how many waved back and also the puzzled look on some faces.

Try to have a happy day (if that is even possible for you since you seem to be so negative about things).
It a learning curve. Let them get some bumps and bruises. Next time they think before they do something stupid again.

These threads about waving just drive me nuts. How can you possibly draw a conclusion that someone dislikes your Byke or you because you are on a certain Byke, really?
Bring on the tire and oil questions, this topic has no merit at all.
When I walk past someone on the way to the door at Lowes or Wal-Mart I usually say Hello or Hi or Good Day. If they don't respond I do not take offense that they hate my shoes or my shirt, maybe they have their mind on other things. Maybe they are having a bad day, maybe they are deaf, who knows.
I know that in the past I was focused on some other object in my path and I missed a bike going the other direction, does that make me a snob, should the other Ryder judge me as not approving of their bike? That is absurd, don't you think?
Sure there are those that won't wave at you, so what? Wave at them and be the better person.

This topic appeared periodically on a Victory forum I belonged to. On there, it was highlighting the fact that Harley riders would not acknowledge us when they wave at each other all the time. It was evidence of their attitude toward anything not Harley. Many couldn't resist making some kind of disparaging comment about Victory's. Does it bother me? Nope. Some simply don't understand the attitude.

I believe the hand gesture originally started with the 2-fingers down as a 'keep the rubber on the road' thing then morphed into a few others. Just for safety, the only other hand gesture I may use is for "Slow Down" if riders are approaching traffic backup, construction site and the like
I get the same percentage of riders signalling me or responding to mine now as I did on the Harley.

Ain't nothin
I wave at everyone on any number of wheels <4 and even wave at them if they wave or thumbs up first.
Why not?, it costs nothing and possibly makes friends.
I understand that many of the guys in mc's will only wave at riders in an mc or even only in their mc.
That being said most of the ones I've waved at have waved back.
Usually the only ones who do not wave are hardcore ricer or "HD Dudes".
They will usually only wave at riders on the same make.
Thankfully they are in the minority.

Strange.... Up until today, I'd say 9 out of 10 mc riders waved back. (I wave at practically everyone.) Today, I rode for 5 HOURS, and I could count the number of wave-backs on one hand -- probably 9 out of 10 didn't wave back.
The only thing that I can possibly attribute it to is that tourist (or "Tour-on", as I like to call it) season has started here. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the non-wavers are not locals, as I get a good response at other times of the year.
BTW - Another thing I've heard said is "If it's tourist season, why can't we shoot 'em?" (Before anyone gets their shorts in a bunch, that's a JOKE.)

Ahhh the never dying wave thread. Personally, I'll return a wave, but the way I see it...I don't wave at every car on the road, so I don't wave at every bike on the road. I really don't get the feeling of obligation to wave just cuz someone is on a motorcycle....But hey, have at it. If you wave to me, I'll wave back

Its just what we do
Giving "the Wave" seems to be second nature in more rural areas and maybe in the south. Its not something you think about, but more of a Hello There thing and even involves pickups and cars when you get out on the secondary blacktops. We even get the several finger "Howdy" from the top of the steering wheel from pickups and four-wheelers.
