    Default Motorcycles don't wave back.

I am new to the Spyder. I sold my 2003 Honda VTX 1800R and purchased a 2016 NEW RTS SE6 Pearl white in February. I am used to waving at all bikes 2 or 3 wheeled. Now not even 10% of the bikes I wave at will return the wave. They will look at me but not wave. I went to the Spyder because of my knees and the commute I have every day. I have been riding for 30yrs. Going to an automatic and 3 wheels has made my life much easier. I am enjoying this forum and all of the great info.

    Thanks

Hi Marty & congrats on the Spyder! I used to ride a VTX 1800 Neo until a car turned left and center punched me. Now I'm on a 20115 RTL. I wave at just about everybody on a bike. Don't care if its 2 wheel 3 wheel or whatever. I get a response from about 60 to 70%. If they don't wave back, it's ok. Maybe they were too busy or didn't see it. I won't let there negativity affect my ride!

    Stay safe and have fun!

Default 2 wheelers not waving back!

Don't take it personally Marty! I'm not sure if it's the number of wheels or the automatic tranny or being made in Canada or what. I rode an 03 Honda VTX 1300 for fourteen years and got used to the no wave. I have a 2012 RT SM5 and am enjoying it as much as my VTX! It took a while for me to get used to the higher reving twin cylinder 998 but once I got used to it all is well. The Honda was quite top heavy and after two hip replacements and one new knee I got leary of dropping it so the Spyder will keep on the road for I hope a good more number of years. Take Care & Safe Riding!

Just curious, what finger(s) are you using when you wave, Marty? :-)

I'm like the rest -- I wave, and about 2/3s or 3/4s do likewise. I don't give it another thought if they don't wave back.

Hey Marty...congrats and keep waiving. A lot of people are unsure about the sypders, some don't look beyond straight ahead, some don't call them real bike....other just have a chip on their shoulder. OH WELL...enjoy your ride and forget them

    WELCOME and enjoy!

Many of those others just don't want to break their Cool Status by acknowledging something that can out maneuver them and in many cases just flat out beat them.

Don't sweat the small stuff. In AK...I would say about 90% return the wave.

Crotch rocket and BMW riders followed by a few of the diehard HD are the biggest offenders of the NO wave.

Someone will post the famous list about waving.

Currently Owned: 2019 F3 Limited, 2020 F3 Limited: SOLD BOTH LIMITEDS in October of 2023.

    Previously : 2008 GS-SM5 (silver), 2009 RS-SE5 (red), 2010 RT-S Premier Editon #474 (black) 2011 RT A&C SE5 (magnesium) 2014 RTS-SE6 (yellow)

I had a BMW F700GS a year ago and I had the same problem. I get no fewer waves now with the Spyder. I think the problem is that our society is full of *******s.

Waving is like saying "Hi" to someone you meet on the side walk. Some say "Hi" back and others act like your not even there. But it is always cool when kids wave at to let you know that they have seen you. Just enjoy the ride.

After 6 years of riding Spyders I see more wave back than when we first started riding the Spyders, I feel that at least 90 % wave, but then again I really don't care if they do or don't . I'm out there to Ride.

We tend to wave whenever able - that is if we're busy maneuvering or trying to stay safe in heavy traffic - regardless whether the wave is returned. It's a simple signal of "fraternity" so to speak and it doesn't matter to us what the other individual(s) is/are riding. In our neck of the woods, the most common non-wavers are helmetless Harley riders though it's not universal. It must be a cool image thing?

" or being made in Canada" Wow we would never think that of Harley's. I am just happy when something is made in North America rather than China!!!! If we did not wave at Harley's here in Quebec, I would not be waving much!

They may be afraid to let go of the Ape Hangers to wave...

Don't mean to highjack the thread but wanted to share something from earlier in the week. We've all seen and heard the HD guys crack the throttle when going through an underpass. The other day I was in my car behind one at a stop sign and he was blipping the throttle and then I noticed he was wearing ear plugs....
So I'm thinking, "the damn thing is too loud for the rider and now the rest of us have to listen to that racket too". Maybe I'll just drive around with a pair of those big Headphones like the guys on the jackhammers use. But I'll be sure to wave.

    Rant is over, carry on.

I just took a trip to OKC from Las Vegas along I40 and back.
Including the miles put on in OKC and others close to 2500 miles.

In all that distance eI got 90% waves altogether. Even on DIVIDED highways like I 40 itself.

Even driving locally I get at least 75% waves.

Maybe they can just tell I'm an OLD xHarley owner

I know I got more waves on the Harley than the Spyder. But who cares.
As long as you are enjoying the ride that's all that matters.

When we are riding, I wave just like I always have on 2-wheelers and wave by raising a hand or dropping the hand, and 95% of the time I get a wave in return. If you really want to cross them up, have your cruise set and wave with the right hand!! Mac

Been riding motorcycles since 1964, but my current rides are a Suzuki Burgman 650 and a F3S. Seems pretty equal with the amount of returned waves I get being about 50 percent. Somedays more, some days less.
