How long can I leave my Spyder in the garage without starting it up/taking it out?
Title says it all, but some context:
- Going on a long (non-ryding) trip, our Spyder will be unused for about 25 days
- Spyder will be staying home in our building's parking garage -- it's private, covered and safe, but no electricity drop to our parking spots, unfortunately, so...
- No battery tender possible, and
- No putting it up on blocks, etc.
Happy to listen to why I should somehow overcome the latter two limitations (I would probably agree), but am mostly interested in knowing if I need to arrange to have it started up and maybe taken around the garage while I'm gone, or if I don't need to worry. Spyder is a 2017 RT bought new in December, and has had the initial 3000 mile service done recently.
If you recommend starting it up and running it a bit, how long should it be run to do the battery charging justice, etc.?
Thanks in advance for your input.

Bret

For winter storage (November - Late April) I park the Spyder in a heated garage, add some Stabil to the tank, and put the battery on a tender. Never had a problem. For 25 days of non riding, personally I wouldn't do anything.

Well....
for that length of time you should be fine. I do that from time to time and it fires right up. Make sure you don't leave anything plugged in that can drain the battery fill the tank and your all good.

IMG_6257.jpg No power no problem FYI found @ tractor supply. Rather than trusting someone else with your toy: only 25 days you should be good if is a good battery & charged before you leave. When you get back have some cables handy anyway, just in case. Or a jump pack

I left my 09 RS alone in the dark for over a year due to its bad behavior, it started up with no issues.

No problem
If there is sunshine, a solar maintainer is an option. 25 days is nothing if your battery is charged up.

It should be ok but for Peace of mind you could disconnect the negative battery cable.

Winter storage..... from middle of Oct. to first week-end in April mine is in a heated garage, battery tender/maintainer, full tank of gas, oil changed. No problems.
Be sure to let your insurance company know about the storage.

I haven't started mine since Nov until last Saturday. It will be fine. I did have a battery tender on mine too.
But I would disconnect the battery for long periods without a battery tender

It should be good. Our RT has set for over a month and started right up. Had a new battery installed almost a year ago and it did fine. Like others have said disconnect the negative cable if you feel better about it setting that long. Good luck.

Since you have an RT, it's a simple procedure to remove the battery and put it on a tender in your home.

hey, I'll come over and take it for a spin for you!! It will be fine for that length of time, but I would help you out if you was a little closer to Maine! Have a good trip!!

a month is fine
According to user manual Can-Am recommends charging battery after a month of not riding. Anything before 30 days is fine. Remember, the battery discharges at a rate of about 1% / day. You don't want the battery drained past 50-60%

Thanks again for the input on this...
Returned from our trip yesterday, and fired up the RT this morning for the commute to work -- everything worked fine (and I managed to stay upright in the seat after over three weeks of no Spydering) so I appreciate everyone's reassurance that the down time was not going to be a problem. Looking forward to getting out on the open road this weekend, hopefully.

It was really great. My wife and I have done a fair bit of work with people and organizations on the ground in Eastern Europe to encourage/strengthen marriages over the past decade, so we were over in Ukraine, Slovenia and Hungary. Part "working vacation," part reconnecting with friends, and part pure tourist fun -- it was our first time in both Ukraine and Slovenia, and Budapest is our favorite city on the planet. Thanks for asking.
