I was amazed in the traffic in South American cities. No lane-lines and cars, buses trucks, etc. going every which way. I think there were lines or medians dividing the traffic by opposite directions, but otherwise, it was a free for all. Yet I never saw an accident! it's like everyone knew what was at stake and they pretty much cooperated. racecar.gif

That seems an awful lot like when they say that "An armed Society; is a polite Society."

Cooperated? That is a word that sadly is rapidly fading away in American society.

I would challenge the engineers of Shared Spaces to travel to Beijing and Kunming China (and likely, any other major city in that ONE country) and try this. There are already MANY countries with either no signage, little to no signage, or drivers with absolutely NO regard for signs (I've been on mission trips to many of those countries) and they are NOT as civilized as the British and Dutch drivers that were subjects of these examples.
Shoot many a senior citizen of MN already hates the "new" traffic circle roundabouts being built out in the country..... (And I'm 60)

We need rules here so that we can break them. How often do you see people running yellows, speeding, and failing to yield. It's already a free for all out there.

Not liking the content of a Post doesn't make it "Political": it only makes it contrary to your opinion.
