    Default Shipping a windshield???

I tried to ship a windshield across country from NV. to Va. Cheapest was $114 or so by Fed EX. USPS and UPS were a bit higher. Any ideas to get the shield across country at a more reasonable price????

If you can box it up so it won't get damaged in transit you might try Greyhound Bus. They will take packages.

Default I'll need a bigger box

Never thought of Greyhound------- but a windshield??? I would have to put my well padded box inside another box to be even moderately safe from damage. But thanks for the suggestion.

It all depends on what company. UPS shipping stores are convenient--but not cheap. I used them to ship floorboards and a Corbin seat. Your bill looks cheap. I was out $225 for the seat.

We don't have the Greyhound option here--but sounds like giving that a try would be good.

I've parted out two motorcycles over the past several years. Greyhound bus was the best shipper I found for large packages. It cost me $11 & some change to ship a fairing panel from Amarillo to St Louis. The box measured 40 x 34 x 14 but only weighed about 15lbs. Total shipping time was 3 days. Just use plenty of padding and maybe double the boxes with bubble wrap between them.

If you custom size your box or boxes, go to appliance stores and ask if you can have a box that a refrigerator or stove came in. They are thicker than normal cardboard; you just have to do some planning/drawing and make clean bends to build your own. I used a piece of 1" angle iron to help make creases on the lines where the bends were.

    Default How to ship

So just go to the bus station with package and get an estimate ( as the buyer would want to know the cost ). Package is 31"x31"x9" and weighs 9 pounds. Does Greyhound insure packages against damage????

Thanks for all the responses------ RT Eddy may get his shield yet.

I shipped an RTS SS shorty windshield from NV to TX for $61 via USPS. I had a box from another windshield that was just about the perfect size and it had cardboard reinforcements in it.

since it's not the weight it must be the volume
for 114 it must be a real big box.
    Try Fed X Ground.
Find the Fed X facility local to you (the one where the trucks load and unload) don't use any kind of store for shipping.
