Today I got re-aquainted with an old friend
In 09 I bought my first Spyder ... and then got another one in 11 .... I put my Shelby Cobra up on stands , fogged the engine, and put StaBil in the gas tank .......... So today I decided to move Her , to make room for the 917, I recently bought. I had kept the Battery on a Maintainer, and She fired up right off ...( not bad after 6 yrs in hibernation ).. Actually quicker than my current Spyder does ..... Hearing that V-8 with practically straight pipes with little to No muffler was MUSIC that only Car guys / Gals can really appreciate ..... I know I shouldn't have taken Her out for a very short Sprint ( no reg. ,no ins. , no inspection etc ) but I just couldn't resist .... After laying down 50+ feet of rubber ( both tires , = posi-traction ) I turned around and put Her in the shed. I really should sell Her. Someone deserves this kind of machine ...... I already have mods in mind for the 917 -- like cutting the body in half ( like the real ones ) and hinging it to open up in the rear .... because there is very limited engine access thru the rear hatch cover, and completely lifting the body is complicated because of all the wiring that would have to be did-connected ).... I will cut it just behind the Firewall and then make a hoop and weld it to the frame ... I will put hinges on the hoop and make a steel ( or aluminum ) frame into the rear body and connect with the roof hinge ... I think McMaster-Carr has gas struts rated at 250lbs ...so two would be 500lbs ...it probably won't lift the rear, but it should make it a lot easier .... Their tech people are very good about explaining what their products can do and making suggestions on what will work better .... This saga will be continued ................. Mike

After letting a shelby cobra sit for 6 years, you should be held liable for vehicle abuse. I believe that you should give up that nice car and let someone else have it that will show it the love that it deserves. I am here in NC and would be glad to share custody with you on that car. It will always be here, waiting for you to visit on the weekends or whatever.
Please include pictures so that we can stop drooling over an imaginary car.

Wow..!!
If it's the AC cobra it's my all time favorite car.. the english AC was the best choice Shelby made. Don't particularly care for his others...but sounds like you will be busy with the 917 and a fun project...

Hate to sound stupid, but what's a 917? Porsche? You've got one of these, Mike? And you're doing major surgery on it?

Mike's promised me a ride in that thing when I'm in Vermont next year, so he can't get rid of it before that!

A good looking clone from the pics, and looking at the weight to HP ratio, it is going to be one smoking hot car! How are you going to keep tires on it??
