    Default Urgent - any iseas

I am on the road and noticed that I could not shift out of 3rd gear when cruising down a rural Highway. Could not shift to 4th nor could I shift down to First. Came to a stop. The bike is in 3rd gear and it idles fine but the throttle is not responsive and again, it's stuck in 3rd gear. I've got a problem. Any ideas?

Do you have an M5 or an M6? If so it sounds like maybe your linkage has either come loose or is dirty. Take the side covers off and check that out. If you have your tool kit with you there should be enough there to do the job.

I was able to get home in 3rd gear period when I press the gear shift lever I can tell it's trying to shift gears but it does not shift gears. When the bike is stopped, it idles just fine but as I give it throttle it doesn't respond most likely because it is still in 3rd gear. Any help would be appreciated as I will be tearing off the Tupperware tonight to see what I can find.

Maybe clutch cable which it may not be or loose foot shift lever since it is a manual model

    Default Interesting. ...🤔

From what you say you are stuck in both 3rd gear and idle...if it is a semi-auto and no throttle response you will have trouble shifting. Oil is a first step and codes if you have them. If Se6 or Se5 you can manually shift with a wrench in your tool kit and get back into neutral. Check the fly by wire if you have it otherwise the older ones had pushme pullme cables. Check the linkage needs to be tight on the shift shaft...it's a start....9

    SM5 is manual..Never mind..

Electric shift paddle or shift mechanism solenoid could be bad.

SM designation is for manual. SE designation is for Semi-auto. The 5 designation is 5-speed (998) and the 6 designation is 6-speed (1330).

Same thing happened to me a couple years ago! Shift lever was loose. Manually get it back to neutral then tighten linkage.

I had the same issue once with my 2014 ST-S SE5. I had about 4500 miles on since the previous oil change and my oil level was low. It sounds to me like you have the same issue.

Larry, you are the man! When I got the plastic off I noticed that the gear shift linkage was loose. So, as you said, I manually got it back to neutral and then tightened it up. I think I am now good to go. I certainly appreciate all the wisdom on this site

Check the oil you should have noticed some problems well before 3rd gear, now you are there , how are you even starting the bike? By default it is suppose to go to Neutral on start up & requires 2000 rpm to get into 1 or R. How to get this with unresponsive throttle? If you are confident enough to look at & check shift linkage arm, go that route & or find closest dealer & put the BRP roadside coverage to work. FYI you will need your VIN number
(Suggest contact whatever dealer first, make sure they can fit you in)
plz let us know what you find

Can you please explain where this linkage is located on the SE. I know it has the shaft where a foot shift lever can be mounted but what Linkage ?

I was under the impression is shifts with a electric solenoid.

    Yup: It does!
The "Paddles send the signals (eventually!) down to a solenoid.
That solenoid is attached to the "Foot-Shift-Shaft" , by the linkage; that loosened up.
