We always remember the corvettes, Ferrari's and so on. But what about those second and third tier cars? They where still desirable. I remember these cars and still lusted after them.
In my teen years I drove my mother's '53 Plymouth, which had splash oiling and a soft crankshaft that flattened when the engine ran low on oil. I drove my brother's 1936 Chevrolet sedan with knee action front shocks that bottomed out so much we called the car "The Clunk"! Then we had a 57 Plymouth with the push button shift. It started knocking and had piston slap so we traded it in on a maroon 1960 Rambler similar to this one! That car lasted a long time. Mom drove it long after I went to college. It was so economically configured it didn't even have an oil filter! I put after market seat belts in it! rambler.jpg

I am a Road Runner fan as well. Here is a photo of my 73 road runner that I restored. Started out with a 318, but redid things and placed in it a built 1969 440, putting out 500+ hp.

That's one I found on internet. It was a 1962 Rambler Classic. 3 on the tree and a heater. Not even a radio. It was a metallic pink color, kind of mauve. When it was new it probably looked like this:

I owned two of these; one white in '61 when I was stationed at Edwards AFB, California. The 2nd one, a black one, I bought when I got out of the service in Nov '63:
They were quite fun cars to drive. When I bought the 2nd one, it had been stolen and only had Park & Drive, no Low or Reverse. I bought all of the parts at a junkyard & converted it to a stick shift with overdrive. And, yes I converted to a 'three on the tree.' That was a fun car project.

PS) I was a recent copy of Street Rodder magazine where you can now buy all of the parts to build a brand new '57 Chevy 2-dr hardtop; SR is doing one as a project car.

I had some "interesting" cars, '39 Chevy with a 302 Wayne Jimmy, '40 Pontiac with a '56 Olds, '53 Merc with a '55 Buick, but I always liked the '53 and '54 Buick Skylarks, and found the '57 Rambler Rebel very interesting.....picture a Rambler with a 327 Chevy in it - from the factory!

My father and his brother brought from their parent's house in Manistique, Michigan, a 1931 Olds two door. Still had the wooden spoked wheels, and hand crank. Nothing wrong with the interior, or exterior. Front bumper needed to be replaced, and the body could have been repainted. And it sat in our garage from 1976 to 1996. My father had the thought of restoring it, but developed leukemia and passed away in 1978. I enlisted in the Navy in 1976, and left it in 1996, and on returning home, my mother stated that she wanted her garage back, and to sell the car.
Another early car was the 1957 Henry J, which was later taken for the demolition derby by my father's brother. On graduation from high school, I was given a 1960 Plymouth Valiant wagon with the push button transmission. Should have restored that car. But everyone has their favorites.
