The CalSci XL works for me. I don't know that it is the best since I haven't tried them all. But I am very satisfied with the CalSci.

Don't forget to do [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hsls5ZPCUnE"]YouTube- Broadcast Yourself.[/nomedia].
Key characteristics, Acrylic compared to Polycarbonate:
More likely to chip, less impact resistance then Polycarbonate. (still 10-24 times more resistant than glass)
Less likely to scratch.
Does NOT yellow after time.
Better clarity and can be restored to optical clarity.
Key characteristics, Polycarbonate compared to Acrylic:
Impact/chip resistance is much higher with Polycarbonate. (about 30 times more resistant than glass)
More likely to scratch.
Substantially more expensive. (roughly 2 to 3 times)
Used for more industry applications
Bulletproof ("ballistic resistant!") when thick enough.
More bendable under normal temeratures (0-20°C)
Yellows over time due to ultraviolet rays
Easier to work with (cut, less likely to break)
Poorer clarity, diffuses light, can lighten (could be positive).

Very graphic comparison!! So, are the Cal-Sci windshields polycarbonate or acrylic? Web site simply says "plastic" but I'm assuming they are polycarbonate since they are DOT certified.

I know before the CHAD came out, Sean took many steps to get DOT certified - said it was a lot of work. If the material is the only part to the product - and it's DOT certified - then the shield is. If there is more to the shield (like the CHAD and F1 slider) - then I believe the whole unit has to be DOT certifed (or should be for your safety).
Some Acrylics are DOT certified, some are not. Some states don't recognize the DOT certification of acrylic.
The CHAD folks really did their homework - I'm going to add one to my collection.
Anyone tried or seen the smoke tinted CHAD ??

Good video but just a thought -
in a head on collision, when your body contacts the windshield, is it better that the windshield breaks off as you fly over the handlebars, or remains intact and is transformed into a guillotine slicing through your internal organs?
(I woke up with the half-empty glass attitude this morning)

Is it better that the windshield shatter and those sharp edges slice into you or that it remains intact and pushes you over the top?
I'm not sure that you even impact the windshield in an accident.

My $0.02. Both will probably break off in a front end collision as your body hits it... if that's your concern.
The four tiny screw mounts will probably break off (in one piece) with the polycarbonate (Lexan) leaving you intact... at least from the shield.
However, the Acrylic (plexiglass) may itself break and leave shards that resemble knives. That's the guillotine scenario. See the pic below of an acrylic shield broken with one brick dropped from eye height.
Also, think of what's more likely to happen. A rock or object thrown by a car or truck? Which shield survives? Which one shatters and leaves you with knife-like shards coming at you.
I've even seen flying two-by-fours, four-by-fours, ladders, chairs, paint cans, etc.
My vote, dollars and health are going with with the polycarbonate (Lexan).

I like the black bottom half on the CHAD in the above post. I am thinking out the smoke top / black bottom half CHAD and round off the top. Now if NMN would just start selling them already rounded...

Industries 7 website shows clear, clear/black and smoke/black as options. No option shown yet on trimming the toenail top corners!
