    Default Trailer wiring

I have the 2014 RT and it has the dealer installed hitch and square plug. Can someone shed some light on the wiring configuration of the four wire plug? I tried searching for a diagram with no success. Thanks in advance!

Here is a diagram of the pin out. It's just like a flat 4 connector except it's square.

    White is Ground
    Yellow is Right Brake/Turn
    Green is Left Brake/Turn
    Brown is Running Lights

I just finished rewiring a 1990 Bushtec Turbo and replaced the 6 wire arrangement that it had
with a 4 wire harness and LED tail/brake lights.

I am totally technically challenged. Which wire goes where on the square plug. Also, my trailer has the old fashioned bulbs, actually they are clearance lights

... does this make a difference?

This is probably the way your plug is on the bike. As you can see the white wire goes to the pin & the other wires go to sockets.

    Capture.JPG

Going clockwise from the pin it looks like the white wire (pin) is upper right, brown is lower right, yellow is lower left and green is upper left.

    Default wires

well I matched up the wires by color and plugged it in. Not working. Checked the flat plug trailer wiring with my van and the lights work. Any ideas for a wiring dummy?

The output of the module is fused. RFB F4. That's right fuse box fuse 4, 10 amps if your is the same as mine. I have a 16 RTS.

    Default fuse

well if you are talking fuses now you are way over my head. Don't even know where to look for fuses. I will take it to the shop tomorrow. Thanks for trying to teach an old dog new tricks.

Good luck. But if you want to get into it further look at your owners manual. It has a section with fuse box location and fuse location.

    Default fuse

When I was working I had a deal with the m/c shop.... they would not write speeding tickets and I would not fix bikes. Been retired sixteen years and thought I CAN DO THIS.... wrong.

Let me ask you first, what Mfg. of trailer are you trying to get to work? Also what kind of plug is currently on your trailer? Next I have to correct an earlier post by OkieDoc. The color code of the square 4 pin connector is White is ground, and its the one that is a pin, Brown is side marker lights, Yellow is Left flasher/Brake, and Green is right flasher/Brake.

Next your trailer may have a convertor somewhere in the tongue area. This will probably have to be removed but only removed if you just got brake lights on your trailer. If you have separate turn signal lights on your trailer then the convertor will have to be keep.

I went through this same thing a few months back. I had a Aluma Trailer with a 5 pin round connector and cut the 5 pin connector off and soldered a square 4 pin connector in its place, removed the convertor that was hidden in the tongue area. Just remember you can do this even though it seems difficult now. If you got any other questions, just ask.

Where can I get a 4 pin square male connector to plug into the factory 4 pin female connector mounted on the factory hitch?

    Default Trailer wiring

I once took a flat four that was on a trailer, split it down the middle and glued it together then put a heat shrink tube on it and it matched my square four on the bike perfectly, I had some photos but cant find them now, but it only took less than an hour for the epoxy to dry and the entire process.

Just to bring my experience with seeking a ready-made 4-pin flat to 4-pin square adapter, some have mentioned that any good auto parts store should have one.
I went to the big three (Auto Zone, Advance, and O'Reilley's) here in Cleveland, GA, and Tractor Supply. No one had one or even seemed capable of ordering one.

That 4-pin square guy just isn't frequently used in the automotive world.

LaMonster has one for about $23.
