Maintenance schedule

I HATE the way our book describes when to do things in the maintenance schedule! I am OK with the initial 3000 mile list but then...... it says every 9300 miles you should do this list of stuff. Are they referring to 9300 miles on the odometer or 9300 after the initial 3000 mile checkup which would be 12,300 miles on odometer? It gets worse when it says every 19,000 miles you do this other list. Is that 19,000 miles on odometer or 19,000 miles after your 9300 mile check?

How about a maintenance schedule that says when you reach 3000 miles on the odometer you perform these things. When you get to xxxxx miles on your odometer you do this list. When you get to xxxxxx you do this list.... etc.....

It is 9300 miles after the first check, or 12300. Then 21600 and so on. As far as the 19000 stuff, I guess I would have to actually look at the manual to see.

Not many like to do the math but as I see it one needs to add the 3,000 miles to the recommended maintance/oil changes...so 12,300 IMO way to long considering most tests show oil starting to break down at around 4,000 miles. Agree it would be clear if they added "on the odometer" Or even going to the other side and doing it by time. As they control the hours engine is in operation they could just say after so many hours of use....

I had that same question after reading the owners manual. However, the BRP accessory manual reads a little differently. It says "at 9300 miles" which is when my dealer did the second oil change. I bought their "Pit Pass Program" which takes care of all of my maintenance for the first three years.

Confusing at best. I change the synthetic oil and filters in my two trikes and vehicles every 10,000 miles. Been doing this since synthetic oil was easily available (many years). I have never had an oil related problem. Confusion in owners manuals solved. Okay, I change the oil and filter in my tractor every 200-250 hours.

Most of us interpret the change at 12,300. It surely will not hurt to do it at 9,300--and yours is now done--so it is a moot point.

I will also say my usual. You can change more often if you wish. If BRP thought the oil would not last 9,300 they surely would not have put it in the manual that way. They do state that if your mileage is less, you need to do it once a year.

But then it would have to go on and on and on. I'm planning on putting another 100,000 miles on my Spyder so how many time would they have to list the 9,300 mile maintenance for 200,000 miles?

I keep a spreadsheet on all my maintenance so I just open it to see how many miles I had on the last service.

So if they limit the number of oil changes in three years you got screwed.

There are no limits to the number of oil changes. All maintenance is included for the first three years regardless of mileage including same day service, nitrogen filled tyres and free battery replacement for life.

I bought the same program, so I will be taking mine in AT 9300.

The BRP Dealer Shop Manual says 3,000 for first service then an additional 9,300 for the next and each additional service or one year between services.

I take it to mean that each service interval occurs at 9300 miles from the previous one.

FWIW, I just had a 9300 mile and the 19,000 mile one done together, being as the timing was right to get both done. Set me back $514.00!! Ouch!

In my mind, it's like the 6,000 and 12,000 mile service checks for my old BMW. The former was called a "minor" service visit (oil & filter, other fluids, etc.), and the latter a "major" service visit (in which they did the valves, did any other tear-down, etc.). Just keep a log in the glove box......

I found a easy way to keep track of service times, we all use the "A" odometer memory for keeping track of fuel used and i use "B" for service, i reset it when i get my spyder serviced then can see how many miles i've gone since then, when it hits 9,300 i get it serviced.easy!

Be careful that you don't accidentally reset your trip meter. It isn't hard to do.

I made mine simple. After the first 13000 miles, I change my oil with synthetic every 10000 miles. I have not had an oil issue. When I ride hard, I will change it a bit sooner. Im over 36000 miles. Never did the valve check or plug change. I have gotten over 40 mph! I dont change things that work.

I live in Florida and do a lot of riding in +100 degree weather. Did the initial service at 2500. Will be doing the rest at 5,000 mile intervals. The 28,000 service will be done at 25,000. There is no harm and maybe some advantages to doing the service more often than required. I do my own service and it costs very little. Takes about half the time to do the service in my own shop than it would to take to the dealer. The oil of turned in for recycling. It will work out to about 2 oil changes a year. About the same as I have been doing on other bikes I owned.
