    Unhappy High Pitched Electrical Noise

I have a brand new 2016 Spyder Rs that I haven't even driven yet. I put in a handlebar mounted radio and have a strange problem. (It could have been there before I started the install and happens whether or not I disconnect the radio power). When I turn on the motorcycle power, then shut it off, I hear a high pitched electrical noise from somewhere in the bike. The only way to shut it off is to disconnect the battery. It then stops, I reconnect the battery, don't hear the noise, and then when I turn the key and shut it off, it starts all over again. I let the noise go on for about 5 minutes to see if it stops itself, but it doesn't. Any suggestions????

If it's like my 2011 RTL the high pitched whine is a result from a software update to hold the throttle body plate closed after engine shut-down. It should shut off after about 40 minutes. This was done by BRP to fix hot restart issues.

    Good Morning,
What you are hearing is the computer shutting down, this is normal. This happens on all the Spyders if I am remembering right. It will take about 20 minutes to 1/2 hour to complete. Welcome to the world of Spyders!!!!

If you have not read the Do's and Don's of Spyders it is a great place to start ....very, very informative."Do's and Do Nots" for new Spyder owners...

    and welcome aboard.

    Default There you have it....

It varies with the models. RT's take longer because of the added systems on it. They also take longer in the start-up process. That's just the nature of the beast. Relax there is nothing wrong. Enjoy your new ryde and sound system...

And welcome to the spyder world and this most informative site...

    It's "Norbal"...
Look at the bright side: if you can hear that sound: your ears don't need to be cleaned!

From the Owners Guide: "All Models. This vehicle is equipped with an Electronic Throttle Control(ETC). Each time the ignition switch is turned OFF, the ETC motor stays energized for 40minutes. The ETC motor will emit a high frequency sound during this period of time that can be heard in a quiet environment. This is a normal characteristic of the vehicle."

My wife says she can her mine all the time... even if I haven't ridden mine for a couple of days. There doesn't seem to be a parasitic drain. I think her ears are super sensitive.

Ah Ha! There is a small benefit to being hard of hearing.

Exactly what I was thinking - all the frustrating beeps, whines and dings that I don't have to worry about:-)
