    Default Passenger seat modification

    Hello, first post here.

Im looking at buying a 2015 RT Limited for my parents, who just turned 70. Time for them to get off 2 wheels and onto a trike. But Mom is only 4'-11" and she's not very flexible. She claims she's just not comfortable on the back seat, for 2 reasons. Reason #1 is the floor boards don't go high enough for her, so even in the highest position they would need a couple inches of blocking to get her feet to rest comfortably on them.
Reason #2 - is she has sciatica, and she feels the front of the passenger seat too wide, making her spread her legs much wider than is comfortable, causing sciatica pain.

So my question is this- can I send the factory seat away to Russell (or some other seat modifier), to get the width reduced? I'm thinking narrowing the rear seat would also likely help with Issue #1 too. Your thoughts?

I suggest you give Russell a call and tell them your situation. I'll bet they can fix you right up.

    Default Welcome. ..

Seat modifications can be done by most outfits in the upholstry business. There are also some modified rear pegs or add some blocks...

+1 on motorcycledave. Besides supplying us with great farkles for our Spyders his main business is rebuilding beds and wheelchairs for special needs people. He is listed on the vendors section on the home page. Give him a call and tell him what you need and will tell you what he can do. I am sure he can fix your stock seat so it is more comfortable without spending as much as a custom seat costs. Although I don't have the problems your mother suffers from he was able to help me turn my 2 hr seat into an all day seat for under $100.00

You are definitely a rarity in this world today. I hope my kids don't forget all the time, energy, effort, an funds that were spent on them over the past 30 years.
As others have stated, if the stock seat is comfortable, but just too wide, any uphostory shop should be able to help you out. If you want something really special, Russel should be able to get the job done.

Another vote for calling Dave. He is more likely to be able to address the situation than a vendor whose main business is just manufacturing to a standard type.

    Give these folks a call:

    http://www.spyderspecialties.com/

They make brackets that relocate the passenger's floorboards.

Wow, thanks guys for all the replies and the nice words. It's all appreciated.

I have a line on a 2015 with under 2000 miles and with $4000 in extra's, that I think I could snag for a very reasonable price. But I don't want to bother the seller unless I'm ready to buy.
Hence, I went to a dealer today to do some more looking at a comparable 2017. I went there with two 4-foot levels and a tape measure and noted some interesting things. The Spyder's passenger floor boards are actually 1" closer to one another than on their Harley. That was very surprising. And in the highest position the floorboards are 1.5" lower than the Harley so defineit,y need some modifying/blocking in that department. What I also discovered is that the seat maybe doesn't need "narrowing", but the rise at the front of the passenger area would need to be cut down so the entire passenger seating area would be level. That would also take away most of the built-in drivers lumbar-support. Has anyone done this?

    Default Spyder Sliders

Try Dave Detweiler for the Spyder Sliders that allow the factory passenger floorboards to be adjusted up or down. He was in St. Cloud Florida and was a vendor on this website. I bought them for my 2014 RTL and my wife loves them in the raised position.

Default Thes is an easy fix

    Hi Dave here
    this is an easy fix.
Check with Lamont regarding the rear foot rests they can be raised, others have done it.
As for the seat that is also an easy fix you do not need to buy a new seat, take the seat off
that is the hardest part, find a local AUTOMOTIVE upholstery shop, one that does cars, leather
and such, They can remove your seat cover reshape the foam to fit your passenger and reinstall
the cover I bet for around a hundred dollars or less.
I do this often for customers and dealers.
