I had the same issue. It is a BRP issue. Their VIN identifies the type of trans in some way. My company had me bring them the bike and they took pics and filed them. All is well.
Is it listed in the paperwork that came with the radio?

As he said, it is normal with the 998. I wouldn't wait to fill it when the oil change comes due. Check it every 1000 miles and add when needed.
