How tight did you main the oil filter covers for the 998?
Do you know if the oil filter cover torque is the same for the 998? I am going to a DYI oil change and want to know how tight they have to be when I put them back on. The service manual does not...
Hi,
I have the service manual for my 2013 RSS and am reading the oil change procedure and noticed they give the torque settings to tight the drain plugs but not the filter covers. I have searched...
Useful information. Is there an easy way to clear the codes on a 2013 RSS? My check engine light came on but it ran fine so I kept going home. I then read the repair manual and one of the cures...
To test my belt tension the dealer jacked up the bike so the rear wheel was off the ground. He then used a tool (sonic belt tension meter) and recorded 1060N (238 lbs) and 1080N (242 lbs). He said...
I have been using my Krikit II to measure the tension. I am going to the dealer to get the tension checked so I will see what they think is OK and how it compares to the readings that I have been...
How many miles on it?
This is from the 2013 service manual. If I am reading this right it states that the drive belt has a nominal tension of 236 and note +/- 34. I think mine is set at 200 now. I have also heard that...
I have a 2013 RSS and the manual says that the belt tension can be as high as 230 off the ground. Does this seem right?
When I do that the screen goes blank. I presume because I do not have any error codes. Any way to display total hours? Thanks for this....
I tried this on my 2013 RSS and it did not work...sure would be handy if it did.
I put some weather stripping between the mirror and housing and now it seems better.
That worked. Thanks.
Yes, I took the screw out but am having difficulty getting the front lens out/off (part 189). I did not want to pry it out unless that is the only way.
I am trying to remove the cover on my front rear view mirror to change the turn signal bulb. It is not a LED like the RT models. I do have a service manual and it just says take the entire mirror...
Hi, My 2013 RSS seems to have some sort of vibration issue. When I look at my left side rear view mirror, the image is bouncing around alot. The right side mirror is fairly stable. I have...
I have a 2013 RSS that specs out to 100HP @ 7500RPM. It sounds like the Monster FI ECU upgrade should boost that to 125HP and maybe more since I have the Two Brothers exhaust system. I would be...
I have a 2013 RSS that is rated at 100hp @ 7500RPM with Two Brothers exhaust. It sounds like even though I keep the stock RPM limit that I may get up to 125HP. I have been to the Monster Fuel...

That KUMHO ECSTA AST 225/50R15 looks like a direct replacement for my 2013 RSS. Thanks for the tip.
What torque are you using? Just by feel or is there a spec we should be following?
My understanding is the throttle body (or intake) is sucking the oil vapor from the engine and tries to burn it off (much like a pcv system). I don't think the in/out matters with the filter removed...
Probably a good idea to clean the foam once in awhile anyway. I went ahead and ordered one of those units that oldgoat mentioned. I will try it out this season.
Is this just like the BajaRon implementation? I don't see how the oil runs back...won't it just get stuck in the foam?
Thanks for the responses so far. Very helpful.
I have been reading about attaching a catch can to the 998 because some people found that the air box had oil in it. Is this a real issue? Some suggest that you not fill the oil tank to the full...
Perfect! Thanks.
I have a 2013 and it has the worn stock tire. How do you tell if there is a better stock tire...is there a date code or some other identification?
I did use the advanced search but obviously didn't refine it well enough. Many thanks to the constructive comments that actually help me understand the issue.
