The only 'group' rides I do regularly are the long-distance checkpoint rallies. With those you get the social part meeting with the other riders at the start and finish, but you do the ride on your...
My 'as soon as I retire' plan is to buy a Chinese motorbike in Shanghai, ride it to Lisbon Portugal, down to Gibraltar and finally up to Nordcapp in Norway.
Mind you I was hoping to retire at 25,...
With my RS about 9,000km was normal, so I would be just starting my 6th tire by that point:-) The rear on my F3L is definitely going to last a lot longer.
The battery powered tire inflators are great for motorbikes/Spyders. I've got a Makita one and carry that around in the frunk with tire sealant and some tire worms. Helped out another biker who I...
And just to show gravel really isn't an issue, I've done both of these:

Never been an issue in the 10 years I've been riding a Spyder on gravel roads...

That's my problem in a nutshell - I ride with adventure bikes and end up going where they go i.e. no gas for a very long way:-)

Ok one cause is likely to be the canister and that's definitely worth doing. Looks like you've found plenty of info on that though there is an article here where from about half way down the page I...
I did the conversion as well so I'll see if I've got any photos kicking around. The ZX14R and 14 Concours both have the same rear fender but one of them (possibly the concours) has some extra metal...
Though things have improved with the introduction of card readers at pumps in the last couple of years it can still be a long way between open gas stations here, particularly if you travel backroads...
Yep the screen is better and more responsive but the biggest difference for me with the XT vs 590/595 is the software and connectivity.
If your creating complex routes like me then the XT has some...
I had a the Garmin 590LM for several years (pretty much the same as a 595). I've now got an XT and I've got to say it is a lot better so agree with others that if your going to get one get the XT

Ten years ago after I bought an RS. This photo was taken about two hours later after a ride to the ferry to take us back to the south island.

Had it nine years and it was still going...
I replaced the air box with one of JT's air filters which meant getting to the plugs was easy as (plus the induction roar sounded great:-))

I did also fit iridium plugs so I didn't have...
Ah that explains what happened...the 590 must have that as well

First bike a very second hand Honda CG125 which I passed my test on. Toured a fair bit of Europe on this:

Most of my bikes were bought secondhand, often cheaply, and all of them ridden...
On my RS I had a metal aux tank on the rack but I've not bothered fitting that on the F3 yet after one of the Aussie members of the site recommended this 8 litre Advworx fuel bag. They come in 5 and...
Though we have the warning light I do miss having to manually change to reserve.
For me for some reason a fuel light coming on just produces anxiety while turning the tap onto reserve when the...
Why don't they just say - "Fun times ahead if you're on a Spyder" :-)
Only in NZ...

Obviously things are a bit different over there in the US when it comes to expertise and knowledge at those places. Certainly the place I've always used here has been great. First time there they...
Looks like a very tidy RSS you've got there. Can see it's got the aftermarket bar risers which is great, as that seems to be something people normally change from standard (I liked the standard...
"Oh yes you're right it is a different color. When I took it in for a service they must have given me a new one back by mistake and I never noticed"
I will admit I took my silver RS in for a...
The RS is a pretty robust beast and there are plenty around with far higher mileages than that.
There's no issue getting service/maintenance parts - but third party extras like hard case...
They just slot in but seem to unslot themselves all the time. So to be honest, unless you stick them in place they are often more trouble than they are worth.
I suspect a lot of riders like...
Phone vs Garmin.
Firstly background, I'm a Technical Director so do know how to use tech as its my bread and butter.
Modern phones are great all round devices and I use both of mine all the...
F3 is about 15 minutes slower on my favourite 'just popping out' route, mind you that route is 667km long and involves both Lewis and Arthurs Passes across the Southern Alps:-)

Further to that I'd say the F3 is a more refined ride than the RS.
Riding wise its better to ride in town/heavy traffic as the RS always felt like it was straining to race while the F3 is happy to...
