I change it once a year, just before riding season in April. I put stabilizer in the gas and the battery goes on a trickle charger. No problems year after year.
Here in WI, I'll be changing mine in the next couple/few weeks. Likely won't be getting much miles on after that. Come storage time, I'll fill with ethanol free premium fuel and add some Seafoam. Plug it in to the battery tender and nighty night :(
When I lived in Alaska (most of the time a seven month riding season) I would always put fresh oil in when the spring riding started (usually late March/early April). The last couple years, due to health issues, I averaged about 5K miles a year.
In Arkansas, I am set for my second oil change this year...did one in March and now I need another one because I am getting close to 9,500 miles since the change. Hoping the weather is still good, cause we are headed to Spyderpops on 10/26. I rode all year last year. A first for me, since I was a Northerner all my life until May 2019.
Good news ! You get used to the warmer temperatures.
If your just putting it up for the winter, I change it in the spring, when the snow is going away and I can't ride my sled, and it's still to cold and roads are to dirty to ride the bike! Put the Stabil to it, battery tender, and throw a blanket over her, and call it a wrap!!! Come on SNOW!!!! BRAP, BRAP!!!!:2thumbs: If you was putting it up for a long time I would defiantly change it now!! Good Luck!!
:coffee: I change my oil when it is due as per the owners manual. So my Tip, change the oil as needed. Check with your Spyder dealer and hear what they have to say. Good Luck on Your Mission. ..........
Here in southern WI, I change ours once a year, in the fall before storage. Actually I jumped the gun a bit and did it already last week, and I expect to get a few hundred more miles before nap time. A few hundred miles on the oil before storage won't hurt anything. I like clean oil in the spring for that first startup, and then I'm ready to go for the season. We average about 5k miles a season, so it works out perfectly.
It's best to change it before storage. Old oil is acidic.
