I assume something was loose. Then I hit a big bump and that finished it off. It's no longer standing upright. Now it's just leaning back towards me and the button won't raise or lower it. Too late to look at it tonight.

Sounds like the flimsy plastic arm that has broken on many others:sour:
Sounds like. Broken dogbone for sure. Upgraded part is available for this but can be complicated install.
I'm not sure if Lamonster Garage sells the replacement alloy windscreen arms, but if they don't, you can always send noboot (that's Ron's username here ;) ) a PM. The 'replacement kit' comes with all the necessary wedges & a good set of instructions to fit the new 'unbreakable' arm!
It sounds like your the bar that attaches your windshield is broken. I think Lamonster has one and you can also buy from BRP now with out having to buy the whole system. You can get just the arm. noboot from Australia invented the billet replacement. You can also buy straight from him.
Yep just went thru that myself last October. Dam thing snapped at 70 mph and folded back and down towards me while driving. I got Noboots arm comes with everything needed to install. Just have to take off a few things to get to that arm. He does have a video on how to change it.
Thanks all. Is this something somebody who shouldn't play with tools can do?
If you PM me I can give you details about my replacement arm
Do you have someone that can help you? Noboot has a video too to watch.
I would not go back to the stock arm IMO.
I note you are driving a 2010 RT. Those first couple years did have some issues with the arms on the windshields breaking. It had something to do with the casting. Have not heard much since 2012 or so about the problem.
The recommendations for a fix above are all good.
Don't forget my 2013 RT too!! :lecturef_smilie: Anyone got a 2014 so we can make it a clean sweep?? :dontknow: :ohyea:
I was just lucky that I noticed the cracking in the OEM lower arm before it fully collapsed.... . But it was probably only hours away from doing so - it literally fell apart in my hands once I got it off the shaft!
The Billet replacement arm has been doing the job without issue ever since - it's done so for about 3 times as long as the OEM arm so far, and I can't really see it EVER being a problem regardless of how long it does the job! Something to do with it being made from an alloy billet I reckon, instead of being made from the flimsy OEM stuff that's further weakened by carving out all the supporting structure!! :p
Yep, got 2014RT.
Replaced my arm a year ago. Wasn't broken but not taking any chances.
Bit more fiddly as my screen has screws not c-clips. Got it done anyway.
Cheers and beers
Frank
Yep add me to the 2014 rt list
So really, with Iridenow's 2010 & the above, all we need is someone who broke/replaced the windscreen arm on a 2011, 2012, 2019, 2020, and a 2021 to show that every year/model RT has this problem..... still..... Despite BRP's continued assertion that 'we haven't seen this on any other Spyder before?!' :gaah:
Mine is a 2012 RT-s SM5... broke that dog bone about 5 years ago. Noboot to the rescue!
Had my 2010RT as well.
