I kind of like this sign myself on a trip out west several years ago.
.
And it's not called the loneliest road in America for nothing.
While travelling through Texas.
My g/f's parents used to own a motel in Austin, a town smack dab in the middle of the state.
I-50 cuts through NV and is the Main Street of this town. We used to go get supplies in Fallon, a town 110 miles away. The Loneliest Road is made for speed freaks, because it is straight as an arrow as far as your eyes can see, with no real traffic to speak of.
So it's THE perfect place to play Maverick and Goose and "feel the need. The need ?? FOR SPEED, OW !!!!”
I've hit the rev limiter on my BMW countless of times there. The weird thing is, when you spend your time traveling at 133 mph (my BMW’s top speed, though the road can EASILY accommodate vehicles capable of traveling at much higher velocities) for a couple of minutes, then drop down to 85, it feels REALLY slow, LOL.
There are numerous instances of people getting buzzed by F/A-18s, F-14s, F-5s and other naval aircraft while driving on that road. It's because Fallon is the home of the U.S. Naval Fighter Weapons School, or "Top Gun" (it's not in Miramar, contrary to popular belief). Anyway, one time we were on that road and we saw a puff of smoke at a distance in some deserted valley. We stopped and found out that it was some sort of training area where naval aviators practice dropping ordnance. We saw a Hornet approach this area from a pretty high altitude, dive towards the target and dropped (what I assume was) a practice bomb. The speed of his approach was blistering fast; I didn't hear his engines until he peeled off from his deadly accurate bomb run.
Now I know the meaning of “Death from above”, because enemies wouldn’t know what hit them until it’s too late.
In-FRIGGEN-credible.
I'm so glad I live in this state ....
.
Many moons ago we were " buzzed" by a jet from the NAS Fallon. Probably doesn't happen now as people would complain, we thought it was cool.

Yes... Dildo is a real place.
Beautiful area actually. You will not find any better people.
If you ever have chance to visit Newfoundland, don't squander the opportunity!

Now that I don’t have any vibrations above 65 mph since my friends and I lowered the belt tension, I want to go to I-50 to perform a top speed run.
But I’m afraid my Magic Mirrors might “magically” fly off and disappear, LOL.
Only in NZ...
I see those signs almost every day. It is good to live in the Carson Valley!
I went through Austin just a couple of weeks ago with my daughter and some of her friends. It was her first long-distance motorcycle ride! There might have been some "need for speed" out that way... but as I was on my Electra Glide, I didn't notice any extra vibration. :D
